Mary Grace Terry Fredericks was born on December 31, 1928, to the union of Gladys Olivia Sims and Amos James Terry, Sr. Mary was born in New Orleans, LA. She was the eldest girl and the fourth of eight children Mary came to Chicago when she was a preteen and she lived with her Aunt Agnes until her mother arrived in the late 1940s. As a young girl, she helped to take care of her grandmother, Olivia F. Nickman Sims until Olivia's death in 1942.... Mary was a Roman Catholic but worshiped in God's House and read the bible wherever she called home. Mary was a straight-A student and received a Masters in Education. She completed all of her Ph.D. courses, but life intervened and she never completed her dissertation. She became a career-long Special Education teacher with the Chicago Public School System until her retirement in February 1995. Mary married Henry Lorenze Fredericks on January 27th, 1950 and had one child, Pamela Marie Fredericks. Pam and Mary were inseparable and loved to travel together. Pam was called Home in March 2004. After a couple of years of declining health, God called Mary Home on Sunday morning, January 21st, 2018. She had just celebrated her 89th Birthday. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her brother and his wife, Ben and Doris Terry; eleven nieces and nephews; a host of cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews; a host of great-grandnieces and nephews; and friends.
