Hoping that our city vaccinates its residents under the principle of equity taking into consideration those whom are disproportionately exposed to the virus bec...ause of their working and living conditions. It is well known that people of color and low wage workers are dying at alarming disproportionate rates. This should be unacceptable for any person of conscious in our beautiful city. Neither politicians or city beaurocrats can make this happen without working together with organizers, educators and grassroots organizations and it will certainly not happen if vulnerable segments of our population do not trust the very same establishment that for decades has accepted and benefited from their labor without accepting their full humanity. My organization stands ready to engage in this process constructively. We will help in every way we can. But NDLON stands ready to challenge in every setting possible if the vaccine is not distributed fairly. Now that we have the first Latino Mayor who has widely shared his undocumented migrant story, we expect nothing less but equity. And I hope that the voices of hate don’t find a forum to unleash their overheated rhetoric and racist views against working communities that find themselves in precarious circumstances because of the pandemic, the economic downturn or the crisis of racial justice out country faces. I share this article below just to show how pernicious and nefarious the xenophobes, nativists and anti immigrant extremists can be. There should be no room for hatred anywhere.
