Practice pragmatic skills at your next family meal Does your child maintain and initiate topics of conversation? If you ask about their day, have them return the question by asking about your day. Modeling and encouraging balanced turn taking at the dinner table will help empower your child to become active participants during similar settings such as the lunch table at school or joining a friend's family for dinner.

Teachers have an invaluable impact in our lives, that remains with us far after we leave the classroom. During these times, we are reminded just how crucial it is that we continue to train skilled and compassionate teachers, like Yessenia. Do you have a teacher that has helped shape who you are today? Donate in their honor now at jtc.org/donate

Providing a louder, clearer signal is only one reason remote microphones help children listen. Swipe to see more reasons on why remote mics aid in listening from a distance and in noise. More information can be read here: https://s3.amazonaws.com//hea/Reasons+for+a+Remote+Mic.pdf

Hi! I'm Ellen. This is my second year at the John Tracy Center as a speech-language pathologist. I love working with diverse children of all ages and I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to provide family-centered therapy. Most of my therapy sessions include books or poetry to not only support language development, but to foster comfort and pleasure in reading! Say to Ellen in the comments below

"Do it again" means a child enjoys a new activity. Adults think repetition is tedious, but children like to be successful again & again. Parent distance explains this & more!

Keep a running list of your child’s expressive language in the Notes section of your phone or in a handy notebook! Write down the exact words, phrases, and/or sentences that are spontaneously said by your child. Share this list with your child’s teacher and therapists to help establish expressive language goals and to remind yourself of your child’s progress. #JTCIdeasandAdvice #expressivelanguage #hearingloss #cohclearimplant #hearingaids

Work on your child’s speech sounds using acoustic highlighting! For example, if your child is making a voiced b sound instead of a voiceless p sound, try whispering p-p-p-pumpkin as you decorate a pumpkin. Whispering is a form of acoustic highlighting that can help consonants, such as p, pop out in a word.

Hi! My name is Mackenzie. I believe working with children and families requires a certain mindset, one that is open and patient, caring and thoughtful. What I love about working at JTC is being reminded of these things by every single staff member here. I have never in my life been surrounded by so many inspiring individuals and am so grateful to have such a wealth of role models as my colleagues. My favorite part about working as an audiologist with children and families is... becoming a part of their team. Aiding them through the journey of hearing loss is an extremely rewarding and humbling part of my job that teaches me something new every day. Seeing how families progress and grow over time offers unique, unforgettable, stories that bring joy to those involved, including myself. Some fun facts about me are: I love going to the dentist, baking is the best source of therapy, I love to travel, laughing is my favorite hobby, and my husband is my best friend. See more
