John Burroughs Elementary School

Today we honor and celebrate the birth and legacy of the civil rights activist and labor leader, Cesar Chavez. He dedicated his life’s work to improving the working and living conditions for farm workers. In 1962 he, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association.

Carmen has been part of the Burroughs community since she was a student at Burroughs. She continued to be part of our community as a parent and a volunteer. In 2010 she transitioned to serving as a noon-time assistant and was an integral part of our family. We will forever remember Carmen for her welcoming smile, her dedication to students, her passion and commitment to our families, and for sharing with us her love for the Burroughs neighborhood. I ask you to join us in keeping her family in our thoughts and honoring her memory by embracing her positivity and caring personality to make this sad moment more bearable.
