Getting ready for my LA delivery, should be fun.

Winter is here, time to stay inside and paint.
Though a bit over cropped by FB, here is a short slide show auto-generated by my phone, mostly featuring my father... https://www.facebook.com/annesley.john/posts/10215785866546762
...and a few more images from the show.
More photos from the retrospective / memorial for my father. Thanks to everyone in the art community and all his friends, colleagues and family.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend my father's retrospective and memorial, and to all who couldn't make it. I am humbled and touched by the many people who told me that John had significantly impacted their lives and careers, his genuine interest and long conversations with artist friends throughout the years. Following are some images from the retrospective featuring paintings from the mid sixties onward. Special thanks to Bill Kane and Joe McDonald for providing the space for this show on short notice at the IceHouse gallery / Digital Grange in Petaluma. Also much thanks to cousin Eric who served as caterer. And thanks to everyone I spoke with at the memorial- thank you, thank you!
John Annesley 1937-2017 Art opening & retrospective- paintings by John Annesley An informal memorial as per his wishes 12-4, Sunday Nov. 5th ... Digital Grange / IceHouse Gallery, Petaluma An informal memorial- John did not want any sort of traditional service so this will be a retrospective show of his artworks dating from the mid 1960's to the present. Including photographs of him throughout the years. Converse with fellow artists and conservators, family and friends. Also including portraits of John and Mary painted by Frank Ryan. John's remembrance / retrospective. Digital Grange / IceHouse Gallery 405 East D Street, (at Lakeville Hwy) Petaluma, CA Sunday November 5th, 12-4 Not a lot of food, some drink- no service, nondenominational, all-inclusive. John was a Buddhist, artist, art materials / practices historian, philosopher, inventor and maker of finely crafted art supports. John gifted his business to his employees & John Annesley Company will carry on with providing museum quality work for artists and conservators.
In Memorium John Annesley 1937-2017 One week after celebrating his eightieth birthday, longtime Healdsburg CA resident John Annesley passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his son, John Annesley Jr., and preceded by his wife Mary who passed in 2006. He thought it was very cool to be eighty, and remained insightful and articulate, energized by his love of art, art process and artists. He had many conversations and visits with artists, family and ...friends during the final months of his life. Renowned in the art world for making finely crafted supports for professional artists, art conservators and museums, 2017 was his fiftieth year in business. Starting in 1967 in San Francisco below Coit tower, John Annesley Company has provided art materials for many of today’s finest artists, and his stretcher bars and artist panels have been used to retrofit works by Cezanne, Matisse, Warhol, Diebenkorn, Rembrandt, Picasso, Whistler, Hockney, Rothko, Van Gogh, Gauguin, DeFeo, Dali and numerous other luminaries of the art world. In his early years, John lived throughout Texas and for a time in Carmel CA during WW2. After high school he spent twelve years as a professional student and studied and lived in various parts of Italy and later in Mexico City. After returning from abroad he worked as a bar tender and managed a string of bars in Dallas TX including some run by Jack Ruby, at the time of the Kennedy assassination he decided to leave Dallas and relocate to San Francisco. For a while he was a cab driver, large cat tamer in a traveling circus, student at the San Francisco Art Institute, professional artist, co-founder of ‘Headlights’ traveling with bands such as with Jefferson Airplane, performing light shows at all of the notorious music venues of San Francisco. He was later a frame shop owner, and ultimately started John Annesley Company in an effort to supply himself and his artist friends and colleagues with stretcher bars and canvases. Known for his great depth of knowledge regarding art materials and their use, he was a living resource who was charismatic and passionate to the end. The quality of the craftsmanship which he and his shop executed, was revered as art among the many artists who saw and used his wares. He gifted the business to his employees. I’m not here to make money; I’m on a mission from God to help artists. -John Annesley- See more
