In recognition of national dispatchers week, I wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU. I say thanks to dispatchers nationwide but I would be remiss not to specifically mention the incredible 911 dispatchers who I have had the pleasure to work with for over 20 years within in the LAPD. I’m sorry I only know a few by name, but I know many of you by your voice as you have watched over me for many years. I thank you for when it was early in my career and you politely corre...cted my bad pronunciation of the many street names that I never heard of coming from my small back east town. I thank you for always making sure you knew where I was, even when I didn’t. I thank you for always trying to get me approved for code 7 (lunch) when it was requested back in the day, knowing there were still calls to be handled. You always typed other units to see if they could handle calls, in an attempt to try to take care of your officers and their appetite. I thank you for always asking if I was still code - 6 ( at scene) because I forgot to clear from a call. I thank you for letting others know I needed an additional unit or even help because I was unable. I thank you because even today as I work alone in a black and white, I know I am never alone. I always have a guardian angel who may be nameless and faceless to me, but I know you are always there to protect me and my brothers and sisters who wear a badge.
