Evolution of a hood. That could be a good book title:) We wanted to add more warmth to this kitchen. It started with a basic sketch, our contractor built the frame and cut the boards, then my sweet client stained them herself before he installed them! I am so happy with the end result! Want to know a secret? Those are not real beams and the straps are not metal. My husband had to leave 4 supports when the ceiling was raised, but they weren't pretty. So he made covers for each and connected them with another wood piece that was spray painted black. Then I added the brass tacks and used 3 different metallic paints with a sponge brush to cover it all up. What do you think? Even as an Interior Designer I forget to pay attention to my own taste and style. It's easy to get caught up in what is trendy at the moment and what other people like. But the truth is...I like what I like ...and you should too:) I have LOVED this black and white fabric forever. So I decided to make a little moodboard for it and now I want to re- do our bedroom:)

If you are thinking of making some changes in your home, try taking a photo of the space first. It will give you a different perspective and help you see things more clearly. When I look at this photo, I see that I want to change the stain color of the coffee table top! I need to get @nukolandphotography on board with this idea first, since he spent many hours making this table out of an electrical spool when we lived in Bahrain. Here is an oldie but goodie...a room I designed about 5 years ago in Virgina:) There are a few things I would tweak...but overall I still love it! When you design with timeless pieces, a room always feel current.

Love when my clients aren't afraid of color.

Scared. Helpless. Grateful. Sad. These are all of the feelings we have experienced behind these doors over the past week, as we have watched the Thomas fire burn around us:( Keeping it simple this year, using fresh greens cut from the bottom of our tree.

Today's the day...our big delivery from Bahrain is coming and I cannot wait to see our goodies again!!

Always fun to see a progress photo:) my clients wanted a more clean and modern look. We added a custom built-in, had their existing sofas re-done and designed that cute bench by the window. Now for a coffee table and accessories...

Every week I find a new to me shop on this little island...this one was filled with goodies from Sri Lanka!

We stumbled upon this little shop in muharraq, bahrain yesterday. The shop doors were amazing and inside we found this gentleman working his carving magic...
