For my Entrepreneur Essay I interviewed an old mentor from back home in Bakersfield, CA. This man has helped me from an early age by teaching me the tools I needed to follow, in order to present a professional image. By manifesting his natural talent having an attentive eye for fashion within both genders he became the entrepreneur that he is today. This man is, Stanley Jamison, founder and CEO of JMyles Image and Consulting LLC. Born and raised in Bakersfield, Jamison decided to create his business by utilizing keen knowledge and skills that he possessed within fashion. However, he always dreamed of the opportunity to give back to the community that molded him into the man that he is today. I want everyone back home to understand that being an entrepreneur can be obtained through hard work, states Jamison, nothing is impossible. It seems that nothing is impossible to Stanley Jamison. Additionally, he is also VP Marketing and Brand Strategist at SPMG Media; therefore, we can understand the passion that Jamison brings to his company, as he inspires himself to constantly grow in different aspects of his business. His passion speaks volume when related to how he values his entire brand, starting from the name of his company. JMyles is the first letter of both Stanley and his son’s last name, and then followed by his son’s first name. As you can see, family plays a strong role in Jamison’s life. Regardless if it’s personal or work related, he holds a high standard for how passionate he is towards the both of them. As we all know, a lot of entrepreneurs are not successful, and some don’t even start retaining dividends from the product/service they’ve created until after a period of time of the company profiting. Furthermore, studies show that 80% of startup businesses do not succeed, mostly due to financial problems or lack of resources. Jamison said he encountered this plenty of times, as he described that being an entrepreneur takes a lot of pivoting, trial, and error. Unfortunately, Jamison faced this problem within his supply chain, mainly through his distribution channel and some designers not completing tasks on time. This was hurting Jamison’s overall brand, which led him to find new strategic partners that worked a lot more efficiently. This was just one of the many obstacles that Jamison faced on his journey to achieve this endeavor. Sometimes you will run into a wall that you didn’t think would ever arise, states Jamison as he relates that quote to a few family and friends that doubted him during his early developments of the company. Later, he claimed you can’t force people to believe but never stop believing in yourself. Don’t ever be afraid to take that risk, understand there is a possibility of failure which is an opportunity to learn but you must keep your faith and stay persistent, states Stanley Jamison. Jamison’s grandfather played a pivotal role in his childhood. He implemented a strong work ethic into Jamison’s life at an early age, showing Stanley that hard-work and dedication can overcome any obstacle that he faces. This inspired Jamison to take that mindset towards anything he set out to complete in life. In addition, I try to incorporate the same exact mindset when I am challenged with various tasks, and that is what I admire most about Stanley Jamison. Not that he was trying to flaunt what he has created in life on his own or tell you about amazing things he’s had the opportunity to do, like teach an Entrepreneur class at Environmental Charter High School. Instead he showed me how to fish and didn’t just hand me a fish to eat. Jamison repeatedly tried to instruct me on the successful techniques that he gained along his journey in life and wanted to not only share that advice but see it manifest in someone else. This truly shows who and what Jamison is all about, which in conclusion, has allowed me to understand life through a new perspective. Life is more than what you can do to overcome your achievements, life is bigger than who you are. Sometimes it’s becoming successful, and sometimes it’s helping others obtain their endeavors. Regardless, life is about improving your life, someone else’s life, and the world in a special way, which I plan to do one day by utilizing the tools I learn from Stanley Jamison.
