For today’s #teachingtuesday we will be showing how to make tube end caps. This is a trick we’ve been using for years, however it seems not many people know about it. All you need to do is match the angle of the notcher to the angle of the tube you need a cap for, then use the same size hole saw as tubing you are capping to notch out a disk from either square tubing or plate. For thinner walled tubing, you can use a larger hole saw so that there is less of a fillet to weld.

For today’s #teachingtuesday we will be notching square tubing Often times we get asked whether or not our notchers can notch square tubing. The answer is: Yes, in many ways! The vices on our notchers are designed to hold and automatically center square tubing both flat and on the diamond. All you’ve got to do is hold the tube in the vise relatively square, clamp it, and as it tightens, the tube will square itself (Pic 1&2). Notching through the diamond is one of our favorite looking weld joints. It is perfect for handrails and other structures. (Pic 3&4)
