This week in my farrier class has been a blast. I nailed my first shoe onto my practice hoof, got to see our instructor do a corrective glue on shoe for a foal ...with a contracted tendon and we had a very special visitor; a month old zebra foal. It's so cool to learn that you can correct conformation issues on babies, be able to practice and learn on both a fake hoof as well as on real horses and the special treat of getting to see and love on the zebra foal truly was the cherry on top. I've loved all of my classes at Reedley but I don't think I've ever had this much fun while learning. The instructors here are truly amazing. The farrier class will be offered next semester and rumor has it that our amazing instructor Tug Clyde O'Bannon will be also teaching the colt starting class. Added bonus is that this precious little zebra filly will be part of the class to further work on her baby manners. Squeeeeee!!!!!

Clovis Rodeo Grounds is at max capacity. Do not send anymore animals there! All livestock needs to go to Reedley College or Fresno Fairg...rounds! Reedley College: 559-967-1069 Fresno Fairgrounds: 559-650-3247 If your livestock is in a mandatory evacuation order zone in Fresno County(Auberry, Prather, Pine Flat, Shaver Lake, Tollhouse) you need to call Fresno County Sheriff dispatch. FCSO is doing a great job handling all the mandatory evacuation order requests for animals and livestock. Fresno County sheriff dispatch: 559-600-3111 If you need evacuation for livestock from evacuation warnings, call me Evolution Quarter Horses(Blake Cadigan): 831-747-5037 For evacuation orders for animals and livestock on the madera county side, you need to Call Naomi at the Central California Animal Disaster Team. Naomi CCADT: 559-269-7685 PLEASE BE PREPARED WHEN LIVESTOCK HAULERS SHOW UP!!!! I cannot stress this enough. Please have your animals ready to go. Have their meds, feed, grain, fly masks, halters, and lead ropes ready to go! The last thing we want to do is get to a rescue and have to scramble to collect your animals. The more time we spend scrambling to get your animals together, is more time we lose that we could be helping someone else. I have to say, I’m amazed by the teamwork of this community. There’s folks I haven’t seen in 15 years, folks I’ve never met, and folks from around the nation that are here to help and work together. I firmly believe Fresno County has a strong community after seeing everyone work together and help one another. We don’t get paid for this. We do this for free. We work off of donations for fuel, livestock feed, a tire if we pop it on one of our trailers, etc A lot of folks ask me and our team why we do this. Simple answer, it’s the right thing to do. The livestock community all shares the same passion. I cannot sit around and watch my friends and families, and folks I don’t know, watch their homes, animals, livestock, and livelihood burn or be in the threat of fire. We as community must do our part to come together, work hard, and get the job done. This fire particularly hits me hard because I’m watching my hometown burn, and places I grew up camping, snowboarding, and fishing. All these feelings I have, I’m sure 99% of this community is feeling the same exact way. We must remember to remain calm, remember that some people are going to be running out of patience because of how hard they’ve been working, and some folks are going to very emotional over what’s happening. We need to treat each other with respect and kindness even if we’re feeling worn out, upset, and emotional. Remember to be there for one another. Lend a hand when you can, cause you never know when this might happen to your friend, loved one, or someone you may know. Again, thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate you all more then you know. -Blake Cadigan
