1984 500XC. Trans was blown when I got it (in pieces) so I put the 4-speed CR trans in it. Converted to full-floating rear brake. Removed rear frame loop. Using XC brake pedal. I like it because it is much more rigid than the CR pedal. Aluminum kicker. I re-valved the shocks several times and added the heaviest progressive springs Ohlins offers. Homemade Ti chain guide. Various Ti through bolts with Al nuts wherever I could. Nice bike. Easy to ride. Handles way better than the 83 due to the 28.5 degree rake!

There has been some discussion on the Husqvarna facebook pages about 82 and 83 250 CR and WR cylinders and their attributes. No one has been able to post the exhaust port heights for the various year/models so I want to share what I have learned. This applies to 74 through 84 reed-valve 250s. 1. I currently have a non-ported, stock 74 250CR which is pipey as hell. Very hard to ride but fast. 2. I owned and raced a 78 250CR in 79. Very broad, easy-to-use powerband. 3. I owned ...and raced a 82 250CR in 82. Very broad, easy-to-use powerband and more overall power than the 78. 4. I owned and raced a 83 250CR in 83. Very disappointing compared to the 82. The 83 was super pipey and not particularly fast. 5. I rode a stock 84 250CR in early 84. Exactly the opposite of the 83. Power came on hard right off idle through the midrange then signed off. 6. I currently have a 82 250CR which is not at all like the one I had in 82. Very pipey with nothing down low. A little mid and then alot on top. I need to get the exhaust port height dimension to add to this discussion (not available right now!) Dimensions taken with piston in cylinder at port closing. Measured down from top of sleeve to top of piston with digital caliper. These measurements will be less than the actual measurement since the piston crown is not flat (has some radius due to the dome) Dimensions: 74 CR = 1.379 (74-77 virtually the same) 78-81 = 1.238 (some porting, may not be stock ex ht.) 78-81 OR = 1.343 78-81 OR = 1.290 (base of cyl has been machined) 82 CR = 1.276 (Boyeson ports added, ex ht may not be stock) 84 = 1.328 Not sure if CR or WR. Part # 1614496 I went to L.A. Sleeve to get their numbers. Here's what I got: 82 CR = 1.355 83 WR = 1.465 83 CR not available! Interestingly, the Husqvarna tech bulletin from late 83 says to use the stock 83 WR sleeve and add the side exhaust ports which came on the 84s. Bottom line-I think ideally the ex ht should be somewhere between 1.355 and 1.465
