Throwback Thursday. A pair of red 2nd generation MR2's in the shop today.

The "Check" light on an '08 Tundra was on indicating a problem with the variable valve timing system. The customer had recently had the oil & filter changed at one of the quick oil change places. We found that it was caused by low oil pressure due to this aftermarket oil filter collapsing and restricting oil flow. You should be able to see through the center of the filter but it's almost completely blocked. This cheap aftermarket part nearly destroyed the engine. The factory Toyota filter costs $5.41.

Ok, my New Years resolution is to post something here more often. I just noticed my last post was a year ago. Hope all is well with everyone.

Cars that were caught up in the flooding caused by hurricane Sandy and designated as Salvaged will be showing up for sale here soon. This article explains how the title can be cleaned up by registering the car in another state before bringing it into California. You don't want to get stuck with one of these vehicles, make sure you have any used car inspected before buying it!

Be carefull when purchasing a used car. Carfax is a valuable tool but we've seen numerous vehicles with substantial damages that were not included in the reports. Quite often, afraid that their premiums will increase, people will not file a claim and instead, pay for the repairs themselves. Carfax will have no record of these repairs and they won't show up on their reports. Always have a technician familiar with the vehicle inspect it BEFORE you buy it.
