A lot of parents worry that they won’t be interesting enough for a documentary session. All the pictures you see in my portfolio are of regular families doing their regular things there is always magic to be found in the everyday moments.
While black-and-white is my great love, some photos need to be in color to make it work like when there's a very upset newborn in the room.
The great thing with documentary sessions is that there is no need to pose or do anything out of the ordinary. As I head out the door, dads often tell me that it’s been the most enjoyable photo session they’ve ever had.
Something a bit different on the blog today:
We may not have kids, but I like to think that we know a fraction of what it feels like to be a parent.
Happy Halloween!

My best furry friend and I at a favorite place.
When your kiddos look back on photos from today... how would you want them to remember you?
Balancing on a rocking chair for that just-right position to nurse your newborn a little bit like how 2020 has felt?
Questions to ask yourself in this season: How do you want to remember this season of life? What are the types of moments you want to look back on?... And literally *how* will you do it do you keep a journal, do you snap some pictures?
Yoga at home can get a bit challenging with kiddos who want to participate... My dog keeps inserting herself into my practice, too.
2020 has been a lot it has felt so weird to write blog posts, when it's so unsure when I'll be able to safely continue to do them. But this morning I was decluttering in my office, and found a blast from the past that I thought I'd share:
Some photography tips for parents from the Documentary Family Photographers Worldwide community <3
"Jenna was both present and invisible while photographing our family. I, and my children, felt instantly comfortable with her, able to chat and talk like friends. She photographed us going about our regular lives in a totally un-selfconsious way." - Alexis
Mom and dad let me handle the photo-taking when you have your hands full.
I would definitely recommend the Fresh 48 you’re never going to be able to go back. The good thing but the bad thing about how we all have cameras in our pocket now is that is that whenever anything happens it’s like ‘Well are you taking photos of this? You need to take photos of this, because we need to remember it!’ " - Paul
A session within hours of birth can feel a bit overwhelming as a thought but the documentary approach makes it so easy. You get to do whatever it is that you need to do and I'll move around, preserving your memories.
