Did you notice how many times the Super Bowl video was out of focus today? Many of the tight shots appeared to be with a very wide aperture lens and it was almost always out of focus. And they kept going back to it. Not sure why. As a photographer, it was a bit frustrating.
The Summer Olympics in Tokyo will go on - I just got my first look at the proposed restrictions for covering the Summer Olympics. Check it out on today's blog post: blog.jeffcable.com
NEW VIDEO TUTORIAL: Fish eye lenses are fun to use! The other day I posted a fish eye shot from a Bat Mitzvah and had a great response to that photo. It reminded me that I need to post a video on how and why I use these wide angle lenses in my photography business. Check it out at: buff.ly/2XmMJFA
Last minute trip to San Francisco last night with my son and Emma to walk around (safely) and take photos. I lit this chain with my iPhone light during the 15 second exposure. (Canon R6, RF 24-105mm lens, ISO 640, f/8, 15 seconds, Gitzo Tripod with Acratech head)
Cool to see my shot of Ashleigh Johnson in the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum for Black History Month. I can't wait to capture more Olympic photos!
This is the Resplendent Quetzal, one of the prettiest birds I have ever photographed! They can be found in select regions of Costa Rica, but not easy to photograph. (Canon R5, 100-500mm lens at 500mm, ISO 3200, f/7.1, 1/500th sec)
Sony announced their new flagship mirrorless camera today, but I am waiting for Canon's professional mirrorless camera. I have MY wish list for what I want it to include, and that list is on today's blog post: blog.jeffcable.com
If you missed my interview with National Geographic photographer, Jay Dickman, you will want to watch this video. He has been an inspiration to me for many years and was fascinating to listen to. Great photos and great stories! www.youtube.com/c/jeffcable

One of my blog readers emailed me last week and asked if I have ever used my 1.4x teleconverter in combination with my Canon 200-400mm lens (which already has a 1.4x tele). So I just did. :) (Canon R6, 200-400mm lens with 1.4x tele, additional 1.4x adaptor, ISO 640, f/8, 1/1000 sec)
People have asked me to share my favorite newer photography products and give them some suggestions to add to their gift list this year. Check out the blog to see my favorite new equipment (ranging from $10 and up). blog.jeffcable.com
There are people out there who believe that a good photo taken right out of the camera is good enough. In my 15 years of being a photographer, I have found that almost every photo I have taken needs at least a little tweaking to make it stand out. In my new video I want to show you how just making simple adjustments can take a good photo and make it much better. See it here: www.youtube.com/c/jeffcable
Here are a couple of Scarlet macaw flying over me when I was in Costa Rica. Luckily they banked their turn towards me so that I could see the amazing colors on their backs. (Canon R6, 100-400mm lens at 345mm, ISO 640, f/5.6, 1/5000 sec)
People are getting really creative with their celebrations during this pandemic. We recently photographed a Bar Mitzvah in San Francisco where the young man's uncles called in a favor from their fellow fire fighters to swing by the front yard party for a visit. The kids loved it and we loved the photo opportunity! (Canon R6, 70-200mm lens at 80mm, ISO 200, f/4.5, 1/125 sec)
I love the interaction between this mama spider monkey and baby. I captured this with the Canon R5 and the Canon 100-400mm lens. I used this lens when I thought I would be shooting in low light and the 100-500mm lens when in brighter situations. (Canon R5, 100-400mm lens, ISO 1250, f/7.1, 1/200 sec)
Are you tired of being stuck at home and not being creative? We are heading to the rain forest of Costa Rica in 3 weeks! It will be safe, fun, and full of great photo opportunities. We have room for 4 more people on this photo tour if you are interested. Contact me immediately at [email protected]
Back from Costa Rica and back to work right away. Sporting the new custom face mask (modified with a metal nose clip to keep my eye-piece from fogging up - thanks to our awesome friend Jessie). (Photo courtesy of Andy Hirsch)
After 8 months, I am so happy to be back in a Temple to shoot a Bar Mitzvah! Only the family, clergy, video team and me, but we will take that!

If you own a Netgear Meural Frame (which I do and love), you can now add some of my favorite night photos to your frame.
Another orange moon due to the Northern CA fires. The smokey air continues for the 3rd week here. (Canon R6, 200-400mm lens with tele at 540mm, ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/15 sec, on Gitzo Tripod)
In case you missed this live presentation...
I just posted a short tutorial video explaining how and why I use flash to take portraits, even when I am outside. Check it out at: www.youtube.com/c/jeffcable
Yesterday I photographed another beautiful Bat Mitzvah. It was socially distanced, but did not lose any of the meaning. I mostly used the Canon R6 with a 70-200mm lens, but this was taken with the 5D MKIV and 16-35mm lens.
Today I hosted another Zoom Get Together. This one had a VERY special guest, none other than STEVE WOZNIAK! Not only did he create Apple Computer, he is also a good friend and had a huge influence on my photography career. Yes, it was Woz who gave me my first digital cameras and inspired me to capture images in my life. In this interview, Woz talks about technology, digital photography and more. Check it out at: www.youtube.com/c/jeffcable
It is that time of year again - time for senior portraits! Check out today's blog post to see a recent photo session, including what I shot and how I shot it. blog.jeffcable.com
