We are pleased to announce that Big Pine, Cave, and Hat Creek Campgrounds will be opening April 21, 2021. Along with the campgrounds all day use sites will open... as well. Just in time for opening day of stream season. Please be very careful while having campfires and ALWAYS drown fires out and make sure they are cold to the touch before leaving the area or going to bed. Always remember if you pack it in, pack it out. Picture: Mt. Lassen from Spatter Cone Trail.

Who is on the other end of the line when you dial 911? Who is there reassuring you that help is on its way in a traumatic event? Who is there comforting you in ...an emergency? Who is the calm in the storm when officers are in the midst of a critical event? They are hero’s! They are the men and women of the public safety dispatch and 911 call centers. When you dial 911 needing help they are the men and women who make sure the right resources make it to you. When officers are in an incident they are the calm taking all the information and getting resources there. No matter the call they are there and after it all they go home and are mom or dad, husband or wife. Remember if you have the pleasure of meeting one of these fine people thank them. They are hero’s and without them we would not be able to do our job. They save lives every day!

Apparently #FarmFriday is a thing. So, here’s an update on the progress being made at the Sheriff’s Alternative Custody Program garden. As of this week, fields ...are plowed, planting has begun, and even some new chickens have arrived. Produce grown at the 7-acre garden is used by the Shasta County Jail to offset the cost of feeding inmates and surplus is donated to various non-profits for the needy. The goal is to beat last year’s crop of 12,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables. We’ll keep you posted. #ShastaSheriff #FarmToFork #TractorLife See more

This past Tuesday Oroville Fire Department received training on a new Airport Rescue foam unit to better equip OFD for various types of fires. The Airport Resc...ue provides foam for flammable liquid fires, aircraft fires and vehicle fires and can also be used for vegetation fires that require the use of foam. The new foam unit replaced a 1974 Airport Rescue that was recently placed out of service due to age. This is a valuable tool for Firefighters and OFD is ready to respond. We are so lucky to have such a great group of OROVILLE firefighters who are always increasing their skills to help keep us safe no matter what situations may arise. Thank you City of Oroville Fire Department See more

STOLEN VEHICLE AND DRUG ARREST: On Monday, January 4, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a BCSO deputy was in the area of Durham-Pentz Road and Cassandra Drive ...in Butte Valley when the deputy observed a driver, later identified as Marcus Meyers, age 29 of Paradise, slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle, which was parked in front of a group of community mailboxes. Our deputy approached the vehicle and contacted Meyers, who initially gave the deputy a false name. Two other BCSO deputies arrived at the location to assist. When deputies asked Meyers to exit the vehicle, he tried to drive off. As the deputies attempted to remove him from the vehicle, Meyers began acting violently, attempting to punch and kick the deputies. Once deputies were able to get Meyers detained, they were notified through our Dispatch Center Meyers had a felony warrant for his arrest, and the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen. They also located several shaved keys and a lock pick set, along with nine syringes, heroin, methamphetamine and Suboxone packets. Meyers was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for resisting a police officer with violence, possession of a stolen vehicle, false impersonation, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of burglary tools. #ButteSheriff

Properly disposing of #fireplace ashes can help prevent a fire emergency this winter. Put ashes in a metal container with a lid and place the container outside at least 10 feet from your home. Your actions can keep you and your family fire safe!

We have now entered the time of year for icy roadways. In recent weeks officers have worked several traffic collisions in the area of State Route 89 and the Wol...f Creek passing lanes. As you can see by the pictures, the roadway surface does not get a lot of sun which creates slippery conditions. Please, as you drive during this time of the year, be especially careful in the shaded areas of the highway. With possible winter weather approaching us this week be prepared for the conditions and make sure that your vehicle is prepared as well. Drive Safe!!!!!
