Youth Ambassador Hayden Roddis is 14 and was 10 years old when diagnosed on November 28, 2016. Hayden's awesome walk team is Hayden's Heroes! Hayden says "To me a cure would mean freedom because I wouldn’t need to worry about my blood sugar or how many carbs a food item has. I became a Youth Ambassador because I want to help other type 1 diabetics." Check out Hayden doing something she loves, Field Hockey.

From now until the end of November and National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM) we will be featuring the San Diego Youth Ambassadors. Today we are featuring 1st year Youth Ambassador Drew who is 8 years old, in the 3rd grade and was diagnosed in 2018 at age 6. Drew's awesome walk team is called Worthless Pancreas Warriors. Drew says "A world without type one diabetes means you can eat without dosing. You still can't eat whatever you want, but you don't have to think about dosing before you eat it." That would be amazing! Thank you Drew! We are thrilled you are a JDRF San Diego Youth Ambassador this year!

Max is two years old and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) this past July, and his mom Melody says that while Max has handled his diagnosis like a champ,... it's understandably been an emotional roller coaster, saying "My fear was, is my baby going to be okay? Is my baby going to live? How will we move forward in life? Will he be able to have a normal life? Will he be able to play sports? How will he do in school?" Melody created a mini documentary about what the adjustment to life with T1D has been like for her, Max, and the rest of their family that you can find here: http://ow.ly/7rlF50C91HP This National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM) we're coming together to show the power of the T1D community, and share our stories. Want to share your story and what #ThePowerofUs means to you? Send an email to [email protected] and you might spot yourself on our Social Media pages this month.
