Dear Black Americans... i understand that we are reliving the Civil Rights Era and that we are now having to reassess our social standing. We live among some o...f the most vile, racist, and divisive individuals in history. Why do i say that? Well, it us 2019 and we still have individuals that truly believe they are superior to us and that our history is not important...we need to just get over it, right? Well slavery was abolished, but desegregation only occurred less than 60 years ago. Those same people that thought we should be drinking from seperate fountains and harassing young Black students to the point of needing armed guards to walk them to school are still alive and well...taught their children the same hate and those children are now of the age that they are leaders in business, politics, education, and so on. We recognize their privilege and superiority complex when we are out seeking justice and march shouting #BlackLivesMatter or #NoJusticeNoPeace; we are minimized when we excell in education or sports; they chastise us and say we are unpatriotic when we kneel to the flag of a hurting country that we love, but doesn't love us back; they call the police when we BBQ in the park or happen to have become successful enough to live in their affluence without their approval and call the cops because we don't belong there; they say things like Columbus discovered America, Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin, and that we must celebrate Independence day on 7/4 because that was when they became free; they get upset when the President of the United States or even Little Mermaids become Black; they tell us that when an unarmed Black man is killed by the police that he should just comply and or follow the law because that never happens to them; they insist that they don't see color and have Black friends, or they relocate to ensure that they are not fully engrossed and living among us; they ask my white mother where she got me from and what made her decide to get a colored baby; in addition to the various other direct and indirect violations of our dignity, humanity, feeedom, and justice. They tell us "just go back to where you came from" if you don't like it here. But where DO we come from? Where is our home? Where do we belong? Right here. Right now. i said all of that to say this: i am not my ancestors and neither are you...i am a part of the legacy that they have sacrificed for and so are you. We are part of a rich history and countless contributions. Why are we still fighting for what we deserve, what was written in the contents of America's founding documents? It is time...long overdue...for us to come together as a people and take what is ours. Take back our neighborhoods, schools, stores, pharmacies, and hospitals. We must become teachers and principals, doctors and nurses, police officers, lawyers, and owners of residential and commercial properties. We must stop allowing our lives to first be infringed upon and then minimized to the point that they are making decisions on our behalf. We must not sit back idle while our youth are being systematically eliminated through public education, justice, or popular culture structures. The time is now. We ARE America.
