Friday fun fact: did you know the paper wasp will gather slivers of dead wood or plant stems and mix it with their saliva to build nests. These nests can be built almost anywhere. The most common places are under eaves, and along fences however I’ve seen them build in soda cans, in barbecues, and underneath pop up tents. Friday fun fact: did you know that the Argentine Ant travels in very large colonies and usually has highways of ants in its trail. The trail could consist of 3 to 5 ants wide. A lot of times these ants are looking for sweeter treats such as syrup and aphids. Happy Friday from JAR Pest Solutions!

Friday fun fact: did you know that a bed bug can live many months without a blood meal. Although many of us are not traveling now, there are still many places to get bed bugs. Friday fun fact: did you know the drain fly or moth fly as it is called sometimes are known as little plumbers. This flies larvae will feed on organic matter in your drains or let you know if you have a leak around your home. Just know when you see these flies it is definitely time to seek out the source because they could be letting you know of a leaking issue you may not be aware of. Friday fun fact: did you know the cellar spider will add webs to their already existing webs. This is why it seems that webs around your home are building up so quickly. The cellar spider is also called daddy longlegs although it is not that species of spider. This name is given more because of its appearance. The cellar spider actual name comes about because they are usually found in dark and sometimes moist places such as a cellar, although most of us find them under eaves in our area. Friday fun fact: the harvester ants is a fairly large red ant 1/4-1/2 inch large that packs a pretty hurtful bite if their colony is disturbed. They tend to forge during the hottest part of the day. Friday fun fact: Did you know that Indian Meal moth only lives long enough to mate and lay eggs. If you are finding webbing in your cabinets, and moths in your kitchen you are most likely dealing with Indian Meal Moths. Friday fun fact: did you know that there are many types of gnats that can invade your home. There is fungus gnats that usually come from the outside when plants are over watered and develop fungus. There are fruit fly gnats that are attracted to that over riped fruit left on the counter. Then there is also drain fly gnats or sewer gnats these gnats are attracted to organic debris that is usually caught in your drain at the P traps are are usually found at the kitchen or bathroom sinks. So be sure to take all precautions to keep gnats away from your home, don’t over water, keep from having any rotting fruit, and clean the sink with a cap full of bleach and hot water at least once a quarter. Friday fun fact: did you know that a mosquito bite is actually very planned out. The female mosquito penetrates the skin, finds a blood vessel or capillary, uses an anticoagulant to make sure clotting does not occur and then sucks out the blood of its victims. The bump that is produced is the skins reaction to the histamine used by the mosquito. If you had trouble with mosquitoes this year please let us know so we can put a mosquito program in place for you next year and reduce the amount around your home. Friday fun fact: did you know the Jerusalem cricket or potato bug as commonly called can be found in gardens and loves to eat young fruit and vegetables plants. Although they can produce a very painful (non poisonous) bite their biggest threat is to your young growing fruit or vegetables plants. Most of the time this insect is very shy but can produce a bite when it feels threatened. Look out for this insect under decaying plant matter and keep this gardens cleaned and fresh.
