Dear Church, After consulting with our Church Council regarding our congregation’s response to President Trump’s and the CDC’s call that Americans refrain from attending gatherings of more than ten people, we have decided to not meet for worship at our gathering place for the next few weeks. Glenn Burris, the president of the national Foursquare Church, sent out a communique. Let me quote his recommendation:... The ICFG board, district supervisors, and officers are asking you to be gracious adherents of the national, state and local recommendations and are expecting compliance with national, state and local laws. We are called to be good citizens and our witness of living under authority will be our clear and compelling testimony of our care and concern for the world, their health and their safety (see Titus 3:1-2, NLT). As you also know, Governor Newsom ordered all Californians to stay-at-home in hopes of limiting the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Obviously, we will follow both the president’s recommendation and Governor Newson’s order. Please know this is not a decision based on fear. Rather it’s a matter of loving our neighbor and acting as responsible citizens. This is a time when national unity is needed so join me in standing with our national, state, and local leaders as we do our part. Our decision to not gather for Sunday worship for the next few weeks will be reevaluated as necessary. We will be posting on our website each week a Sunday morning communique and message and also a midweek pastoral talk on Wednesdays beginning next week. Betty James will continue to send out updates as well as coordinate any prayer requests. Please let us know how you are doing, For nearly three hundred years the early church met in small groups without buildings all the while facing considerable opposition. They found creative ways to be God’s people and the church grew despite all the disincentives. The call to shelter in place makes it hard to gather in homes right now although that is not strictly prohibited if it's a group of ten or less. Why not consider virtual get togethers using Zoom, Facetime, or other video platforms to gather and stay in touch? As you can see we are reactivating our Facebook page and will post occasional video communiques during this season. If you do decide to get together for prayer, please follow completely the CDC guidelines, particularly those over 65 and anyone with underlying health issues. Obviously we are in an unusual and challenging time but our God is with us! We have at our disposal the power of prayer. The Psalmist boldly declared, The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer (Ps 18:2). In closing, I’d like to ask every household to make a significant commitment to pray each day for God’s intervention. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead your praying and please consider a time of song and praise as well. Together we will see God’s hand move! Your brother, David
