Kinesthesia, which tells us where our body parts are, and proprioception, which tells us what our parts are doing, contribute to the brain-body feedback loop. W...hen we get injured, use poor posture, do harmful repetitive motions, etc that feedback lop becomes compromised. The brain organizes movement based on this feedback, and faulty feedback produces faulty movement. This can lead to injury and pain. NKT addresses this dysfunction via its neurological protocol. The faulty movement patterns are broken down into their components, re-organized, and then integrated into as larger movement pattern. This article discusses the role of kinesthesia in this process. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2754351/ See more

Is there a relationship between your neck and jaw muscles? You bet there is! The SCM and masseter can affect each other, usually with the masseter overworking a...nd the SCM underworking. NKT testing finds this relationship a lot, but also finds the neck extensors and posterior fibers of the temporalis interacting, plus the pterygoids and scalenes interacting. This article details the relationship of neck and jaw and its importance in the function of both areas. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/2015/512792/ See more

My client presented with neck pain, jaw pain, and lower back pain, all on the same side. He pointed to the base of his skull, the masseter, and the glute area. ... NKT testing found the suboccipitals overworking and the SCM underworking. Released the suboccipitals and activated the SCM. Then we found the masseter overworking and the SCM underworking. Released the masseter and activated the SCM. Finally we found the suboccipitals overworking and the glute max underworking. Released the suboccipitals and activated the glute max. Neck, jaw, and lower back pain much better. See more

My client is a nurse practitioner and one of her specialties was bone marrow transplants. When she first started this 10 years ago the tool she used was like a ...screwdriver. Now she has right posterior shoulder pain when she tries to do that motion. NKT testing found the rhomboids overworking and the biceps underworking in shoulder flexion. Released the rhomboids and activated the biceps. Her shoulder felt better, but not fully resolved. Then we found the supination function of the biceps underworking and the rhomboids overworking. Released the rhomboids and activated the supination function of the biceps. Now her shoulder felt great. NKT tests function not muscles. See more

New client has neck, shoulder, elbow, and wrist pain. She says it hurts when she turns her head, she gets a sharp nervy feeling down her arm to her wrist. Sound...s like a nerve impingement. From the pattern it looked like the median nerve. The median nerve is associated with the term "double crush", where it gets impinged in the neck and wrist. I suspected this case might be a triple or quadruple crush. NKT testing found the lateral neck flexors, pec minor, medial epicondyle area, and wrist flexors all overworking and the biceps underworking. Released the neck, pec minor, medial epicondyle muscles, and wrist flexors one at a time followed by an activation of the biceps. That helped the nerve pain a lot. Then I taught her a median nerve floss/glide (next post) that completed the job. A case of quadruple crush. See more

The piriformis muscle is famous for its effect on the sciatic nerve, but it is also involved in sacroiliac joint dysfunction, lower back pain, rotational patter...ns, etc. In NKT we find it can over or underwork depending on the movement pattern dysfunction. Test don't guess. This blog details its relationships and involvement in sciatica. https://neurokinetictherapy.com//the-piriformis-is-a-real/ See more

When you sprain your ankle your brain moves you away from the pain and alters foot mechanics to do so. When the foot becomes pronated there is a kinetic chain r...eaction felt all the way through the body. That's why people suffer from knee, hip, back, and neck pain after an ankle sprain. This blog details this relationships. https://neurokinetictherapy.com//ankle-sprains-and-the-ki/ See more

New client, fell on her right side and fractured her skull, broke her collarbone, punctured her lung, and now has a decided twist to the right. She came to see ...to get untwisted, so that's what we looked at. Her left lower ribcage was higher than her right indicating a twist to the right. NKT testing found the right internal oblique (IAO) overworking and the left IAO underworking. Released the right and activated the left. Ribcage better, but more to do. Then we looked at her pelvis, also rotated tp the right. NKT testing found the right piriformis overworking and the left underworking. Released the right and activated the left. Finally we looked at the shoulders. Twisted to the right as well. NKT testing found the left pec major overworking and the right underworking. Released the left and activated the right. Now the twist looked better and felt better to her. See more

The iliolumbar ligament (ILL) starts off as an extension of the quadratus lumborum and then differentiates when we are teenagers. It can play a role in lower ba...ck pain if it's either neurologically under or overactive. In NKT testing we look at the ILL especially in cases of rotation. This article on the role of the ILL in lower back goes into more detail. https://tinyurl.com/y2akwy6y See more

To release the sacrotuberous ligament in order to free up the pudendal nerve try this. In NKT we would then activate another pelvic ligament and an associated muscle like the piriformis. http://drmorgan.info//sacrotuberous-ligament-pudendal-ner/

When the pelvic floor muscles become neurologically overactive they can cause painful sex, frequent urination, painful sitting, etc. Commonly that happens when ...the transverse abdominis becomes underactive, especially after childbirth. However, that is not the only reason. The pelvic floor can overwork for other core muscles, the glutes, etc. The obturator internus forms part of the pelvic floor and thus is in a synergistic relationship with the other pelvic floor muscles. If the obturator internus were to become underactive more burden would be placed on the other pelvic floor muscles. NKT testing can be used to deduce that, and the exact pelvic floor muscles would be released before activating the obturator internus. Properly rehabilitating the pelvic floor can change someone's life. Homework includes a pelvic floor release (pictured) and activation of the obturator internus (next post). See more

Many people suffer from pelvic floor pain, unable to enjoy sex, painful sitting, etc. Very often the problem is entrapment of the pudendal nerve, a branch of th...e sciatic nerve, which passes through the sacrotuberous and sacrospinous ligaments. If the nerve gets caught there, which it frequently does, symptoms ensue. NKT can test ligaments via their mechanoreceptors. Sometimes there is a relationship between the ipsilateral sacrotuberous and sacrospinous ligaments, but more often between those and other pelvic ligaments. If the sacrotuberous, for example, is found to be overactive and needs to be released, this procedure works well, http://drmorgan.info//sacrotuberous-ligament-pudendal-ner/. Many people have been helped via this procedure after other things have failed. Getting your life back is everything. See more

My client was having shoulder and arm pain after doing a lot of gardening and raking. He pointed to the middle of his arm/biceps area and also to his anterior s...houlder. NKT testing found his biceps were testing weak, but what was causing that? I started with the anterior shoulder pain and found the anterior deltoid overworking and the biceps underworking. Released the anterior deltoid and activated the biceps. But his arm still hurt. Then we found the brachialis overworking and the biceps underworking. Released the brachialis and activated the biceps. Now his arm pain was gone. See more

My client had a dental implant done on her left side and now has jaw, neck, and shoulder pain. Naturally I started by looking at the jaw muscles, the masseters... and temporalis. Both sides felt tight, especially the left masseter and the right temporalis. NKT testing found the left masseter neurologically overactive and the right temporalis underactive. Released the left masseter and activated the right temporalis. That helped with the jaw pain. Then we found the left masseter overworking and the left scalenes underworking. The scalenes were weak and tight and elevating the first rib, causing the shoulder pain. Released the masseter and activated the scalenes. Now her neck and shoulder felt better. See more

The scalenes are not only neck flexors and rotators, but also breathing muscles, affect the brachial plexus, and affect the position of the first rib. In NKT we... sometimes find them overworking and underworking. This blog details their relationships and importance. https://neurokinetictherapy.com//the-scalenes-the-dynamic/ See more

Yesterday I had 2 clients with posterior shoulder pain. The first was a runner, and it only hurt when he ran. The second was a breast cancer survivor, and it hu...rt when she used her arms. NKT testing found the runner's infraspinatus overworking and his posterior deltoid and mid trap underworking. Released the infraspinatus and activated the delta and trap. No more pain. Challenged it by having him run in place. Still no pain. NKT testing found the woman's infraspinatus overworking bilaterally and her pec major sternal underworking bilaterally. The pecs are strongly affected by breast cancer. Released the infraspinatus and activated the pec one side at a time. No more shoulder pain. See more

My client increased his daily push ups and now has terrible pain in his shoulder. He pointed to the deltoid area, specifically to the middle deltoid. Push ups r...equire that the serratus anterior maintains the scapula against the ribcage. In his case it was not and the burden fell on the mid deltoid. NKT testing found the mid delt overworking and the serratus underworking. The mid delt helps to abduct the humerus, the serratus adducts the scapula against the ribcage. Released the mid delt and activated the serratus. Had him do a push up, being conscious of maintaining the scapula against the ribcage, and to his amazement and delight, no more pain. See more

New client, treated colon cancer with radiation and chemo, and now is totally healthy. However, since then she's had bilateral lower back pain and left knee pai...n. The tumor was on the left side. NKT testing found the sacroiliac joint on both sides compressed and the psoas underworking. Did a gapping technique on the SIJ then activate the psoas one side at a time. Lower back pain better. However, the left psoas was still a bit weak so we explored more. NKT testing found the fascial distortions on the left side neurologically overactive and the psoas underactive. Did some myofascial release on the adhesions and activated the psoas. Now only the knee hurt. NKT testing found the left adductor magnus distal part overworking and the psoas underworking. Release the add mag at the knee and activated the psoas. Knee pain gone. See more
