Channel Islands National Park provides vital habitat for seabirds and shorebirds, offering essential nesting and feeding grounds for 99% of seabirds in southern... California and important wintering areas and stopover points for shorebirds. On this #SentimentalSunday, we invite you to revisit a restoration projected initiated in 2007 at: https://www.nps.gov//photosmultime/seabird-restoration.htm. Funded by the Montrose Settlements Restoration Program (MSRP), these short videos, including a two-minute kid narrated summary, highlight the transformations on Scorpion Rock and Santa Barbara Island. NPS, partners and volunteers have spent years removing non-native plants, collecting seeds, growing seedlings, planting native species, and creating valuable nesting habitat for seabirds like the Cassin’s Auklet and Scripps’s Murrelet. Ongoing restoration continues to expand predator free space for many different seabirds to nest and thrive.
