Asslamu Alaikum, The blessed days of Muharram are upon us and we would like to encourage everyone to fast the 9th (Tasua'aa) and 10th (Ashura) of Muharram 1436. These days will, inshAllah, be on next Sunday 11/2 and Monday 11/3. The Islamic Society of Santa Rosa would like to invite you to a potluck on both days at iftar(breaking fast) time. The Iftar will be at 5pm inshAllah. Please bring a dish split into two to share with your brothers and sisters. ... Please find below hadiths narrated about the importance of Tassua'aa and Ashura. Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so keen to fast any day and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of 'Ashura', and this month, meaning Ramadhan."[Reported by al-Bukhari] 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fasted on 'Ashura' and commanded the Muslims to fast as well, they said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'If I live to see the next year, in sha Allah, we will fast on the ninth day too.' But it so happened that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away before the next year came." Asslamu Alaikum, We would like to announce the beginning of the blessed month of Dhul-Hijjah tomorrow (Thursday Sept 25th, 2014), inshAllah. May Allah make it a blessed month on all of us, we encourage all of our brothers and sisters to increase their efforts in worship and to do more good deeds these days. ... The Prophet (S) said " There are no days in which, the good deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days; the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.." Based on that, the day of Arafa will be on Friday October 3rd, 2014. The first day of Eid Al-Adhaa will be on Saturday October 4th, 2014. Eid Information and Flyer to follow, inshAllah.
