Did you know that unclaimed bikes in our property room go to auction? Could one of them be yours? Our Police Officers and Property Specialists work tirelessly to reunite bikes with their owners, but if the bike isn’t registered and hasn’t been reported stolen, finding the owners is very difficult. The first step to ensuring your bike’s safety is to register it with Project 529, a free bike registration service that allows you to input information about your bicycle and uploa...d photos. If your bike is lost or stolen, it is also important to file a report with the police department. Register your bike in our garage at project529.com/Irvine Register. Report. Recover! #EndBikeTheft

Most of us receive numerous packages during the holiday season, and this time of year we typically see an increase in package thefts. To reduce these thefts, try tracking the package so you will be at home to accept the shipment when it is scheduled to arrive. If that isn’t possible, try to schedule the delivery for a time you will be home or require a signature for the package. If you will be out of town for an extended period of time, place on hold on your mail and packages. Perhaps ask a trusted neighbor to accept packages for you. Happy Shopping! #CrimePrevention #PackageTheft #InPartnershipwiththeCommunity #IrvinePD

For many, the start of a new year means lots of goal-setting and making resolutions. You may have already broken some of your resolutions. But this year, why not make a daily reminder to improve your personal safety? It is important to be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, there may be a good reason. Reduce the opportunity to be victimized by paying attention while you walk and keeping your hands free of electronics and other distractions. If you see something, say something; let our officers check out anything that doesn’t feel right. Let’s make 2021 a great year of taking control and committing to your personal safety! #CrimePrevention #ReducetheOpportunity #IrvinePD
