Let's vote to move toward an US that we can all recognize, respect, and take refuge in. "A Logo for America," Alfredo Jaar, 1987, Times Square ~ In 1987, Jaar's work contested the meaning of America and the US flag, challenging the ethnocentrism of the United States, which obscures the identities of other countries in the American continent. Harkening back to Magritte's pipe, Jaar's message rings true today, and carries more meaning, evoking modern calls for native rights, land back, and the continued struggle to identify with a country that doesn't protect or represent its citizens.
Member highlight Antoine Hunter was featured on ABC7 News! Antoine is a dancer, choreographer and founder of the Urban Jazz Dance Company, providing opportunities for Deaf and other-abled artists to contribute to the performing arts and larger society. "So Deaf, for some people it's just a disability. For the capital D, it's a culture because we have a language, we have a written format structure, we have history. Now you talk about music? Yes. Deaf people love music."
