FORMING NEW NEURAL PATHWAYS is the key to making changes that stick. It’s the process of cultivating neurological muscle memory through repetition of alternative, healthy thought patterns. For example, getting into shape may be a possible goal for many on a finite timeline such as getting a beach body to look good this summer. However, these changes are often tentative as we revert back to old habits once summer is over. In this example, lasting change comes from re-conc...eptualizing exercise as part of adopting a more athletic lifestyle, rather than an annoying means to an end. The trick is to repeat and reinforce the more constructive mantra every time mental resistance kicks in. So the thought, Ugh, I have to go to the gym today, becomes I get to exercise and be athletic today. The concept of forming new neural pathways is not only applicable to countless changes we wish to make, but is essential to their lasting success. Just some food for thought when we’re contemplating those pesky New Years resolutions #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthwarrior #mentalhealthday #adhd #anxiety #socialanxiety #depression #strong #mentalstrength #positivevibes #positivity #selflove #growth #nurture #psychotherapy #therapy #breakthestigma #selfcare #psychotherapist #happiness #mentalwellness #stress #individualtherapy #instagood #peace #mindfulness #mentalhealthmatters #guidance #support See more
