From @marisahamamoto (Founder @infiniteflowdance ) Happy #InternationalWomensDay Amidst the trauma from the rise of Asian hate crimes and processing years of discrimination as an Asian American, @people named me Women Changing the World for their International Women’s Day edition that you can find on newsstands starting today Fri Mar 5. Past recipients include @oprah @michelleobama @kamalaharris @brenebrown @sherylsandberg . This year, the list includes @vanessabryant @am...andascgorman @camila_cabello @staceyabrams @naomiosaka @sofiavergara @crystalechohawk Kimberly Ladd, and 4 doctors who were champions behind the Covid-19 vaccine: @kizzyphd , Dr Katalin Kariko, Dr Kathrin Jansen, Dr Lisa Jackson. I am beyond honored. I don’t know how I got onto this list But what I do know is this: I survived a stroke, multiple sexual assaults, body shaming, PTSD, and discrimination as an Asian American I devoted the last few years of my life building @infiniteflowdance a nonprofit professional dance company composed of dancers with and without disabilities with a mission to promote inclusion, ALL to arrive at this moment: To help each person and organization who comes my way become more inclusive and rise higher together. I am far from perfect. I’m a work-in-progress who continues to learn and unlearn social justice, disability inclusion, transformative leadership, and so many other things. But if sharing my truth can open one door for you or open more hearts at your organization, then I am here for you. Change requires many parts, and we each can be part of the change in our own way. I’m encouraging all artists, creatives, and intellectuals to use your talent for the betterment of your world and community. If you would like to explore this with me, I’m planning on a community workshop some time next month. Sign up for the Rise Higher Email List in the link in my bio. Thank you to each person who has been part of my journey, and if you are now discovering me, say Hi in the comments. Photo: Umbrella: @schaunchampion With @adelfo_ceramejr : @michaelhansel

#FounderFriday (New) with @infiniteflowdance founder @marisahamamoto Something I’m finally open to confessing: @infiniteflowdance was ALSO born out of my struggle to find my place as a dancer. Something I wrote down in my journal this week and quoted in two speaking engagements last week: Your pain is an awakening to your most authentic purpose.... During my childhood, I was told over and over that my body wasn’t made for dancing. After getting a stroke in my spinal cord which temporarily paralyzed me from the neck down, I got trapped into believing that my body was broken. And after 3 sexual assaults, with the first assailant being one of my ballet teachers who didn’t believe in me, this led me to feel like I didn’t belong in the world, as a dancer and human being. I found healing by discovering ballroom dancing. In 2012, I moved to LA to start my dance career all over, but when I arrived I found myself again not quite fitting the mold of the Hollywood dancer. For example, I was told on multiple occasions that Asian ballroom and salsa dancers were not needed. After years of rejection and fighting to dance, I discovered my purpose as an artist to help others find the dancer within themselves and use dance as a catalyst to promote inclusion and innovation. I created a company that included me, and a movement to better build a world where we each feel we belong. But now that I’ve come up with this quote, perhaps there is more to serve and discover What about you? Does anyone resonate with this quote?

If you agree, comment Yes and tell us why. 1 in 4 Americans have a disability. Over 1 billion people in the world have a disability.... Accessibility should be considered first, not last. Before you put out anything online or offline, consider if what you are doing is excluding anyone. What many people don’t know is that INCLUSION INSPIRES INNOVATION, and so many innovations have come out of solving for accessibility. For example, in the early 1800s, a woman by the name of Countess Carolina Fantoni da Fivizzano was losing her vision at a time when the only way to write a letter, as if she dictated her words verbally, and someone else transcribed it. But, if it’s a love letter, you definitely didn’t want anyone else to overhear your words. The Countess was friends, and according to some sources a lover of Italian inventor Pellegrino Turri. Together they developed a machine that became the first iteration of the typewriter, which has evolved over time into the modern keyboard. #accessibility #accessibilitymatters #inclusion #inclusionmatters #inclusiveeducation #inclusive #humanrights #disability #disabilityawareness #disabilityinclusion #disabilityadvocate #disabilityrights #ada #diversity #knowyourrights #disabilityrightsarecivilrights

Today @infiniteflowdance was brought into @nbcuniversal and @comcast for virtual screening and panel for Scoops of Inclusion as part of a series of events to celebrate 75th anniversary of Disability Employment Awareness Month. It was positioned as a family event, so some employees tuned in with their kids. Thank you NBC for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to continuing partner to promote inclusion and increase the representation of people with disabilities at work and... on the media. Scoops of Inclusion is a short film and learning platform that premiered a couple weeks ago, celebrating diversity and empowering kids to actively take part in creating a more inclusive world. Repost: Can’t wait to see Kima Dima in this commercial Kima was born and raised in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He trained in Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Jazz Funk, and built a professional dance career in Russia, which included working with Anita Tsoy, Vintage, and Egor Kreed. In 2016, he was granted asylum from the US and left Russia to avoid persecution for his sexual orientation. A few months later in January 2017, Kima lost his lower left leg as a result of an accident but that... did not stop him from dancing. He trained hard to stand, walk, and eventually dance with his prosthetic leg. His journey with Infinite Flow began when he was introduced to Marisa via Facebook while recovering from the trauma. It took some time ‘til he was ready to jump back into dancing, but Marisa continued to check in, and in Sept 2017, he finally said yes. Since then, he has been involved in flash mobs, dance videos, and even choreographing for performances. Kima loves collaborating with new friends and posting videos on social media. He is an avid Instagrammer and he hopes to use it as a platform to motivate and spread positivity. Infinite Flow stands out to Kima as unique because of the support and love everyone has for each other. The organization has brought more smiles and laughter to his life. Catch Kima in Scoops of Inclusion, a short film we released last week celebrating diversity and empowering kids to actively take part in creating a more inclusive world www.scoopsofinclusion.org

Our film Scoops of Inclusion is now LIVE at scoopsofinclusion.org Check it out! Here is the finale dance: The Ice Cream Rap -- Earlier this summer, I was furious to learn about the racist origins of the commonly played ice cream truck jingle.... Released in March 1916 by Columbia Records, Turkey in the Straw the song repeats the phrase Ni**** Love A Watermelon Ha! Ha! Ha! and continues to mock Black people. WTF? This is absolutely unacceptable and wrong!! So for our film Scoops of Inclusion, along with talented Black disabled artists Jay Manuel and Joey Noble, we created a new ice cream song called the Ice Cream Rap. What do you think? Should this replace the existing ice cream truck song? Happy to announce, after a successful virtual premiere this past weekend, our film Scoops of Inclusion is now available to stream at scoopsofinclusion.org #scoopsofinclusion by @infiniteflowdance is a short film and learning platform empowering kids to celebrate differences and be part of creating a world where we each feel we belong Made for kids, schools, and families.
