The Grand’s multi-functionality has allowed it to be transformed for a number of events, including a roller rink to host Roller Derby Nights! In 2018, the Expo hosted the Dan Ferrari Roller Derby Championship where E.G. Miller’s Brooklyn Devils and Honey Sanchez’s Los Angeles Fire Birds battled it out to win the championship.

Rad Brad Oxley just called!... Kinda sounds like hell, but his spirits and his drive is bigger than ever! He said to make sure everyone that has reached out to... him knows that he is so so thankful, and its given him a fierce spark to get the world famous Costa Mesa Speedway racing again, with spectators asap! "I will be back!" and with a vengeance! Still plenty of recovery and rehab to do, Brad has big plans... While still working stuff out final details with the fair board, Brad is looking at running races in August, September and October on their usual Saturday nights! Sure was a good chat with Brad and Jaleen...and even better to hear their plans. "We are not done...and I aint goin nowhere" Such great news from Brad himself... The Expo is proud of our partnership with the Purist Group who are committed to helping children in need in our community. This summer they hosted their annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive here at the #Expo where hundreds of car enthusiasts and community members dropped-off donated school supplies that went back into our community! #puristgroup

Industry Racing’s Speedway at the Grand has been bringing together top speedway riders from across the state since 2003! This thrilling event is hosted at the Expo during the summer where Junior riders and Division 1 riders compete for the sport’s top prize. We can’t wait till we can welcome our riders back to compete!

Tom Blattler informs me that: "To honor the passing of one of the greatest racing announcers of all-time and the voice of the Long Beach Grand Prix, Bruce Flanders, the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team will run this decal on their Indy 500 cars this Sunday. "Welcome to the Beach" was always Bruce's tagline at Long Beach. RIP Bruce!"

Tragic news, I'm sad to relay that "The Voice of Speedway" Bruce Flanders has passed. My deepest condolences to his children Megan and Mike, his brothers Paul and John along with all his other relatives. We will miss "The Voice" but never forget. Rest in Peace Bruce Flanders

Well. I’m sorry. I wish I could change or make what I say less painful but it is not possible. Today, Tuesday August 11, Megan Flanders informed me that her father Bruce Flanders is on his death bed. Whether a matter of hours, days or even a week doctors can’t say but Megan did relay that they told her the time has come. Bruce has put up an amazing fight. Doctors gave him six months to live when he was diagnosed with Chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD) disease almost nine ye...ars ago. Chemotherapy, trails drugs and group procedures, Bruce did it all. Some showed short term promise but a cure or even stabilization was not to be. Things took a tragic turn when Bruce’s wife Vickie Flanders passed unexpectedly last year. In perfect health her passing not only robbed Bruce of the love of his life but also of his caretaker. Although Bruce hid the hurt and stress it was there. Unfortunately no one could help, it was what it was. Daughter Megan Flanders moved back home and became his caretaker. His brothers Paul and John and Bruce’s best friend Ike Clanton also are doing more than their share to help with both the physical and mental part of this terrible situation. Now under constant hospice care his body weight is less than 100 pounds. On drugs and anti-depressants Megan tells me pain is not an issue and hopefully it will not be. When I asked Megan if she wanted this made public she said yes and asked that everyone email or call Bruce to offer comfort and say how much they admire the man we affectionately call The Voice of Speedway. Bruce has no physical strength and sleeps about 22 hours a day so please leave a message on the answering machine or computer. Megan reads them to her dad when he is awake.
