This past Monday, our team helped vaccinate 513 people (a majority of whom were street vendors!). We're looking forward to seeing them all for their second dose! Check out this story by Anabel Munoz covering the event: https://abc7.com/covid-vaccine-food-vendors-are-consider// We're extremely proud to have worked with so many partners to bring this much-needed resource to street vendors and other underserved communities that have had limited access to vaccines. As vaccine ...rollout expands, we MUST prioritize low-income communities of color as they have been the hardest hit by the pandemic! Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this possible including Community Power Collective McCarty Memorial Christian Church Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and Fulgent Genetics. Special shoutout to Erika Hernandez and Rudy Espinoza for leading the charge!

This Valentine's Day weekend, we want to remind you all to support your local street vendor! This week we spoke with several vendors who are struggling to earn income and prevent their businesses and their families from falling further into debt. We can help them out just a little bit this weekend by supporting their businesses. As we continue battling against this pandemic on many fronts, we have to support the most vulnerable entrepreneurs! The ones who continue going to w...ork each day because the systems we have aren't serving them they way they should. So go out and get your flowers, sweets, teddy bears, or even hot dogs (!) from your local street vendor, and help ensure that these hardworking entrepreneurs also get to spend some precious time with their loved ones

Booker T. Washington is on our mind for today's #Blackhistorymonth leader highlight. Booker T. is a giant of Black history for his commitment and contributions to Black entrepreneurship. A founder of the Tuskegee Institute and the National Negro Business League, Booker T. became famous for his "Atlanta Compromise" speech, in which he called for Black progress through education and entrepreneurship. Over time, Booker T.'s ideas were challenged by leaders in the broader Civil... Rights struggle, but we admire Booker T.'s commitment to entrepreneurship as a key component in the fight economic justice and civil rights! You can read more about Booker T. Washington, including one of his op-eds, here: https://www.crf-usa.org/black-history-m/booker-t-washington https://www.theatlantic.com//the-awakening-of-the-/305449/

This year, filled with so many ups and downs, provided Inclusive Action with new ways to serve our communities. We are filled with gratitude to share this annual report, which features highlights from our small but mighty team in 2020.

For our second #BlackHistoryMonth leader highlight, we want to uplift the work of another key figure in the Civil Rights Movement, Ella Baker. A North Carolinian granddaughter of formerly enslaved people, Baker was a key figure in the development of a number of civil rights organizations like the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the NAACP, and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Baker was a staunch advocate for achieving economic advances through collect...ive action, always making the case that "[people] had something within their power they could use, and it could only be used if they understood what was happening and how group action could counter violence You can read more about Ella Baker here! https://snccdigital.org/people/ella-baker/ https://ellabakercenter.org/who-was-ella-baker/

The Street Vendor Emergency Fund provides financial relief to street vendors who cannot access COVID19 government relief programs. Funds collected through donations were used to provide street vendors with a one-time $400 payment. This fund was created in partnership with East LA Community Corporation, Public Counsel, and Community Power Collective in response to the COVID19 economic shutdown. Through your donations, we were able to help 1296 street vendors and gather some data on who and what they helped. Check out this summary we created about what the fund accomplished this year. To learn more about the Street Vendor Emergency Fund's impact visit our Annual Report.

Today, the Street Vendor Emergency Fund deployed over $30,000 directly to street vendors in South LA. In total, we have deployed almost $450,000 since the pandemic began. We are so thankful to our supporters, volunteers, and donors who have helped us get $400 cash cards to over 1,100 street vendors. We also distributed information on the Census (We Count L.A.), fighting anti-blackness in the street vendor community, and hand sanitizers and masks secured by the Mayor's Office ...of Immigrant Affairs. Part of the magic of this effort has been our partnership with Community Power Collective, Public Counsel, East LA Community Corporation, and also a simple application process that gathers basic information and allows for street vendors in need to self certify their need without too much paperwork. The network of vendor leaders also helps us verify that street vendors that apply are indeed, street vendors. We’re also thankful for our volunteers who help make calls to make sure that street vendors have assistance to apply and where to go to pick up their card. The pandemic is far from over. As we continue to support relief efforts, we have to work together to make sure that all resources we are organizing are accessible to street vendors who have little to no other means of assistance and are dealing with so much right now. #covid19relief #streetvendorjustice #economicjustice #protectstreetvendors

We wanted to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for every volunteer who gave up time in their days to help the Street Vendor Emergency Fund. To date we’ve distributed over $440,000 to 1,100 street vendors and this would not have been possible without the help of our amazing volunteers! Check out our blog post spotlighting three volunteers and why they were motivated to lend a hand.

This article highlights three key ways the PPP program failed to help underserved businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is why Inclusive Action partnered with local CDFIs and the County agencies to provide accessible relief programs for small businesses/micro-entrepreneurs. If we are going to give relief to folks, we have to make sure they can easily access it!
