IMPERIAL COUNTY PREPARES FOR UPCOMING FLU SEASON The Imperial County Public Health Department will offer flu shots at Drive-Thru Clinics Saturday October 31st and November 7th at the Imperial Valley Fairgrounds. The Imperial County Public Health Department will be offering flu shots Saturday, October 31st to individuals six months and older at a drive-thru vaccination event from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. A second drive-thru vaccination event will be held Saturday, November 7th a...t the same location and time. Public Health staff will be taking protective measures at the vaccination event and anyone arriving to the clinic with symptoms of COVID-19, will be unable to receive the vaccination on that day. Attendees are required to wear a face covering and encouraged to wear a short sleeve shirt. There is no cost for receiving the flu shot from the Imperial County Public Health Department this year. Dr. Stephen Munday, Public Health Officer stated, The flu vaccine takes about two weeks to become effective and the Public Health Department strongly advises all individuals who are eligible, to get their flu shots early to lessen their risk of contracting the flu this flu season and in preparation for the holiday season. With COVID-19 continuing to be widespread in the community, it is important that individuals prevent the flu by receiving the flu shot to reduce the risk of becoming severely ill as a result of the flu. Although the Public Health Department continues to be closed to the public, flu vaccine may be available with local physicians, community clinics and local pharmacies. Individuals who wish to receive the flu shot from their doctor will need to contact their healthcare provider directly about the availability of flu vaccine. STATE ISSUES UPDATED GUIDANCE FOR PRIVATE GATHERINGS IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA The Imperial County Health Officer has issued an Amended Health Officer Order, eff...ective 5:00 p.m. on October 10, 2020, updating guidelines for private social gatherings that bring together people from different households. The amended order reflects guidance released by the California Department of Public Health. The new guidance allows private gathering attendance of individuals from up to three separate households and gives local health officers authority to enforce additional limits. Due to the continued widespread circulation of COVID-19 in Imperial County, the Imperial County Health Officer has added an attendance limit of no more than 16 people for all private social gatherings. Additionally, the Health Officer Order disallows high-risk activities such as singing and the use of wind instruments during these gatherings as a way to further reduce the spread of COVID-19. The three separate household total consists of everyone in attendance, including the hosts. While we know that gatherings of any size pose an increased risk of virus transmission, there are things we can do to lower that risk, stated Dr. Stephan Munday, Imperial County Health Officer. Limiting the number of households that come together, avoiding high-risk activities, and meeting in outdoor spaces helps to reduce the risk of virus spread. The State recommends that individuals keep the households that they interact with consistent over time, adding that participating with multiple different households or groups is strongly discouraged. Hosts of social gatherings are encouraged to gather contact information for all attendees, should contact tracing become necessary following the event. The full Guidance for Private Gatherings can be found on the California Department of Public Health website at https://www.cdph.ca.gov//CDPH-Guidance-for-the-Prevention-. The amended local Health Officer order can be found at www.icphd.org. It is anticipated that the State will release guidance related to Halloween activities sometime next week.
