During the incident, multiple shots were fired and Deputy Chisum was fatally injured as a result. Deputy Chisum was a four and a half year veteran of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. It's with the heaviest of hearts we report the recent passing of one of our retired K9 Deputies, Tazwell. K9 Taz started his career with the Sheriff's Office o...n January 1, 2010 with his handler, now retired Detective Jason Flanders. Taz retired on January 3, 2018, after 8 dedicated years to the Sheriff's Office, and the citizens of Kendall County. After retirement, Taz was adopted by Detective Flanders, to live out his days and enjoy his golden years with his family. K9 Taz was a multi-purpose German Shepherd from Poland, specializing in narcotics detection, handler protection, evidence recovery and tracking. Taz truly became a staple around the Sheriff's Office, especially in our dispatch center, Kencom. It was rare to find Taz without his ball or kong, which he would inevitably gently drop at your feet looking for a sometimes not so quick game of fetch. Taz had a way of making work stop, but no one seemed to mind. Even after retirement, Taz would still come by to visit the Office, ball in mouth, ready to go. Taz was incredibly calm, but yet was still an outstanding Police dog. If you were one of the good guys, Taz was your best friend. If you were on the wrong side of the law, Taz was definitely a force to behold. Our time with Taz was too short, and his passing is bittersweet. We won't get to see Taz anymore, but we know that his pain is gone and he is now at peace. Taz, you will forever be in our hearts. Rest in peace, we'll take the watch from here. #93
We cannot believe yet another death for the ISP. A hero gone - RIP Trooper Ellis. https://www.odmp.org/officer/24030-trooper-gerald-ellis
This is beyond devastating that this is the 15th Trooper struck in 2019 (and the second fatality). So heartbreaking to have lost Trooper Jones-Story. https://www.odmp.org/offic/24028-trooper-brooke-jones-story
Here's the video tribute I put together tonight (while wiping some tears in the process) for fallen McHenry County Deputy Jake Keltner. An outpouring of love for an officer, a husband, a father, and a hero. https://www.wifr.com/video?vid=507126642

Illinois State Police Memorial Park lights are Blue in honor of McHenry County Sheriff's Office Deputy Keltner. #NeverForget #AlwaysRemember Illinois State Police
As this horrible unimaginable day draws to an end we would like to take a moment to say this: As we escorted our fallen officer, Deputy Jacob Keltner, to the Wi...nnebago County Coroners Office tonight we saw you. We saw the groups standing out in the cold with their blue line and American flags waving. We saw the men, women, and children standing at attention. We saw the people who stopped in traffic and got out of their cars with their hands over their hearts. We saw the businesses who let their employees stand outside to pay their respects. We saw the car dealerships with all the cars in their lots, lights flashing. We saw the respect paid by the hospital staff, the EMS, and firefighters. We saw all the agencies that came to show their support and join in our procession. We saw you tonight and we want to thank you for your support.
More devastating news. Many prayers of comfort for Deputy Sheriff Keltner’s family, friends and brothers and sisters in blue. https://www.odmp.org/off/23987-deputy-sheriff-jacob-keltner
