Today we would like to remember the formidable Italian architect and designer Cini Boeri (1924-2020) who created a series of iconic seating designs and collaborated with some of the biggest names in Italian design. . Many of her designs were modular or used a very limited palette of materials, and often strictly a single material. The Serpentone sofa ( like the one in this photo that is on display at the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles) designed for Arflex in 1971 w...as made only of polyurethane foam and it was sold by the meter so the continuously snaking sofa could fit and mold to the proportions of any space. In celebration of Italian Design Day 2020: Pio & Tito Toso, Italian Design Ambassadors for Los Angeles discuss their work and design as they were unable to attend in person due to the current health situation. Brothers PIO and TITO TOSO were born in Venice and both graduated from IUAV, Venice's University Institute of Architecture. Addio Gigi! Much-loved Italian comedian and cinema and theatre actor Gigi Proietti has died today on his 80th birthday. His fellow Romans/Italians adored his standup comedy skits as much as his movies. Gigi was also highly cultured and, among other things, he was the director of the Rome Globe, a reconstruction of Shakespeare's theatre. During his career, he dubbed several other famous actors including Robert De Niro, Sean Connery, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Burton and Dusti...n Hoffman. Addio maestro you will be missed.
