IDEA Center Families, Welcome to the 2020 - 2021 school year. Looking back to March 13th I never dreamed we would be starting the year in this manner. It saddens me that I will not get to see all the students’ smiling faces on the first day of school. Even though we will not be on campus together, be assured we are going to work hard as a school to provide the best possible distance learning experience for our students. Administration, Teachers, Counselors, and Staff have ...been working on a new plan and new curriculum to provide an improved experience for Distance Learning compared to last spring. Distance Learning is still new for all of us all, but we plan to provide students with a high-quality high school experience during a time that pushes our resources and capacity. Students will begin school on August 10, 2020 with information and introductions from teachers; live classes start the next day. I will be sending out an invite for a virtual Coffee with the Principal in the next week, as well as our plan for a virtual Back to School Event. Student and Family Overview During this unprecedented time, the Grossmont Union High School District is committed to providing an ongoing and high-quality educational experience. Our district learning plan focuses on bringing relevant and engaging instruction to students while also understanding the current situation requires us to modify our usual expectations. Students, families, and school staff need to offer each other grace and flexibility in the coming weeks. Here are ...the key components of our plan: * Distance learning for your high school student will be Chromebook-based.* * Each subject-area teacher will deliver weekly activities on an assigned day. See the chart below for the schedule. * Classes will not be live and attendance will be measured by student completion of self-paced activities. Teachers will offer optional support through video conferencing, student email accounts, and Google Chat. Details will be shared by each teacher. * Teachers will post assignments on their assigned day through Google Classroom, Schoology, or a classroom website. A reference guide will be available to easily identify how students will receive teacher activities. * For each class, expect about two hours of required work the first week and up to four hours for the proceeding weeks. * Questions about assignments should be directed to the teacher. * If you do not have a functioning Chromebook, contact us and you can come exchange it ** If you do not have Internet access, you are encouraged to sign up for Cox Connect-to-Compete. They are offering free Internet through May. You can also reach out to the school or individual teacher for other options.
