About the Author Born and raised in Milford, Connecticut, William C. Chittick did his B.A. in history at the College of Wooster (Ohio) and then went to Iran, where he completed a Ph.D. in Persian literature at Tehran University in 1974. He taught comparative religion in the humanities department at Aryamehr Technical University in Tehran and, for a short period before the revolution, was assistant professor at the Imperial Iranian Academy of Philosophy. He returned to the United States in January, 1979. For three years he was assistant editor at the Encyclopaedia Iranica (Columbia University), and from 1983 he has taught religious studies at Stony Brook. Chittick is author and translator of twenty-five books and one hundred articles on Islamic thought, Sufism, Shi'ism, and Persian literature. His more recent books include The Self-Disclosure of God: Principles of Ibn al-`Arabi's Cosmology (State University of New York Press, 1998), Sufism: A Short Introduction (Oneword, 2000), The Heart of Islamic Philosophy (Oxford University Press, 2001), The Elixir of the Gnostics (Brigham Young University Press, 2003), and Me & Rumi: The Autobiography of Shams-i Tabrizi (FonsVitae, 2004). He is currently working on several research projects in Sufism and Islamic philosophy. About the Book Renowned scholar William C. Chittick explores the worldview of Islam in a series of essays written over thirty-six years. In Search of the Lost Heart brings together twenty-six essays by William C. Chittick, renowned scholar of Sufism and Islamic philosophy. Written between 1975 and 2011, most of these essays are not readily available in Chittick’s own books. Although this is a collection, its editors have crafted it to be a book sufficient unto itself, which, when taken as a whole, can be said to explore the underlying worldview of Islam. Chittick draws upon the writings of towering figures such as Ibn al-‘Arabi, Rumi, and Mulla Sadra, as well as other important, but lesser-known thinkers, as he engages with a wide variety of topics, such as the nature of being and knowledge, the relationship between love and scriptural hermeneutics, the practical and theoretical dimensions of Islamic mysticism, the phenomenon of religious diversity, and the ecological crisis. The book will be available for purchase and signing. http://www.iccnc.org/articlePage.php

Salam Alaykom, This is a "Closed Group" page is for Members & Planning for The Islamic Center of Redding...Please request to join if you are a member. Wasalam, Thanks! -Babak
Following the meeting yesterday at the Redding City Council Chambers with Mayor Miss McArthur, Redding Sheriff and Redding Police Department. It was decided that the name of the organization will be "Friends of the Trail" rather than the River Trail Watch. A Mission Statement was agreed upon as well as the idea of making this facebook page. Also, there are more ideas such as creating vests, t-shirts, hats, lanyards, etc. for identification as members of the "Friends of the Tr...ail". These could be funded by corporate sponsorships. The city will not be funding this organization, so all costs will be either out of pocket, donations, and/or sponsorships. There is also a list of phone numbers that will be distributed and possibly even printed on materials to wear. The idea here is that the group helps Law Enforcement by being the 'Eyes and Ears' of Authority, however there should be no physical contact with any criminals (That is the job of the Police). You can answer questions if asked, but you don't engage people who may be doing a crime. You are to carry a Cell Phone & Pepperspray for self protection if necessary. Overall, when engaging the public, you would function more as an 'Information Officer' of sorts or maybe a 'Trail Guide'. There will be a domain name that will point to this facebook page and/or a website in the near future as well. We do have a group of people who have signed up, however we are always looking for volunteers to sign up! The Mission statement is as follows: MISSION STATEMENT: As citizens and users of the trail system our mission is to provide an increased sense of security, safety and to assist all users of the trail system. To accomplish this goal by providing an identifiable presence that will report to authorities any and all activity or situations that require their attention. To achieve our mission statement by: 1. Patrol of the river trail on a regular basis. 2. Being approachable to answer questions. 3. Providing information on rules of the trail. More information will be posted here as well as pictures when available or as it is developed. Thanks! The FBI has set-up 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324), prompt #3, for anyone who has information, visual images, and/or details regarding the explosions along the Boston Marathon route and elsewhere. No piece of information or detail is too small.
The subject this week was about "No Compulsion in Religion" -Quran ...by Imam Abubakr of the Islamic Center of Redding.
There were some technical difficulties at the last Friday Prayer and the video was not recorded, however we will try to have this coming weeks online inshallah. Please feel free to comment and give feedback so that we can better serve your needs.
