Once an old power plant, this historical makeover blended vintage architecture with new furniture to make for a one-of-a-kind private amenity space. The building features all original restored windows, brick and beams. Working with ATEC Spine to furnish their new corporate headquarters located in RPG’s newly renovated Carlsbad project was one of our biggest accomplishments in 2020! Extensive planning and execution was needed for this caliber of client, the entire process took nearly a year and half. This project was done by the book RFP to install and everything in between. We faced our share of challenges but in the end our client is ecstatic and their team cannot wait to occupy the space. Elora has been with ICE for over a year as the first ever Showroom Manager. She heard of the position while talking with her old roommate (now ICE Vice President), Elyse. Elora loves that her position evolves with the company and that she wears ‘many hats.’ From Marketing and Social Media, to Human Resources and Accounting, she is constantly learning and developing new and valuable skills. The strength she is focusing on this year is Developer which seems to go hand in hand with her personality and willingness to help others succeed. During quarantine, Elora spends time with her 2yo son, Rory, husband, Alex, two dogs, Bones & Mimi, and pet fish, Mater.

We recently completed a new project for a real estate asset management company here in San Diego. This project was a redevelopment in Del Mar to bridge the space between two buildings with outdoor furniture. We were happy to provide the tenants from both buildings with a new beautiful outdoor space for meetings, events and alternative workspace. @ Del Mar, California

We are proud of Alysse for continuing to give back to our community. She just completed her first year as IIDA San Diego City Center Director alongside Jennifer Sun. What started with contributing her time to DesignConnect grew into her role on the IIDA board. She has met life long friends throughout the process and gained a greater appreciation for our local design community. Without our volunteers, organizations like IIDA cannot exist. Donating our time is critical to making change in the world.

The Revolutionary War was fought on American soil from 1775-1783, pitting American against American as well as against the British. Many lost everything - their lives, farms, businesses, family members because of this nationally polarizing war. And all to create the struggling experiment that is American democracy. They fought for freedom from oppression as Patrick Henry notably supplicated Why stand idle here? Is life so dark or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the... price of chains and slavery? I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death! As we celebrate our freedom from the chains of Britain, we should pause and note that African Americans were literally slaves during this period of US history, which was illegal in Britain. Britain offered them true freedom from slavery and thousands embraced this opportunity. British historian Simon Schama’s recent book Rough Crossings: Britain, the Slaves and the American Revolution is enlightening in many ways and captures this lesser known story of our history when two-thirds of all slaves in South Carolina and 30,000 Virginian African American slaves escaped their bondage only by leaving. This year more than ever, let us honor the unlimited opportunity afforded in America because of the lives and livelihoods that were sacrificed for the benefit of their descendants and future waves of immigrants that seek to find freedom in this great, albeit imperfect, American Melting Pot!
