When a loved one begins to forget themselves, how can that not affect your mind as well? Existing caregiver support groups focus on what is happening in the mind going through cognitive decline. Nightingale Dementia Consultant support groups focus on what is happening in the mind of the caregiver. Challenge is always an opportunity in disguise. We will support you as you learn to sustain trust in yourself, in the emotional connection to your loved one, and in the future that ...remains after the disease has run its course. Our sessions are held on Zoom. If you'd like to participate, drop a comment here or message me. #cognitivehealth #alzheimersdisease #caregiversupport

If you are a caregiver guiding your loved one through cognitive decline, do they drive you crazy with back-seat driving? Don't take it personally. The part of our memory that helps us make decisions is organized around our spatial memory. Think of "brown dog" as the intersection of two cross streets: "brown" and "dog." Another known intersection might be "brown bag." Obviously the layout of our ideas is more complicated than any road map, which is why spatial memory is at th...e bottom of the system. Driving is known to be a good way to strengthen spatial memory, and so to preserve conceptual recall. Another good activity is walking in nature. So when you get those random suggestions and complaints, try to lead them on with "Oh, that's an idea! What should I be looking for when it is time to turn? And what street comes next?" And when they complain, just tell them "Thanks for helping. I may be wrong, but I want to see if this new way is faster"

For those of you suffering from Zoom fatigue ( https://tmb.apaopen.org/pub/nonverbal-overload/release/1), I suggest the following: * Use speaker view. It's not so hard to turn away from the speaker - we tend to subconsciously assume that they will receive attention from others. * Permit yourself to turn the video off every now and then so that you can squirm, stand and stretch. ... * If your organizer complains, tell them to not be such a hard-ass. It would be great if Zoom would toggle to grid view automatically when you are speaking, so that you can gauge audience response, but that may take some time to develop.

While this is targeted to those living with Parkinson's, most of the post applies to anyone with a dietary disorder or weight control problem. Our gut is only fully active when we are in a relaxed state. We can only process food effectively when we take the time to mindfully relax prior to taking in food. Chewing thoroughly is something else to pay heed to. Take the time to pick foods that you enjoy having on your tongue, and savor the aroma and taste. http://www.outthinkingparkinsons.com/articles/eating-habits
