Based in Oakland, California, Diego got a foothold in the Bay Area music scene by playing high energy sets with Afro-Latin groups Bicicletas Por La Paz, Aluna, Lagos Roots, and Congratulatinos. Over time, he gained the reputation of a lively frontman who will stage dive, take his shirt off, and get you to dance along. The core of Pretty Fire’s music has been and still is love in all of its fiery and beautiful forms. All songs are inspired by personal love stories: platonic and romantic, casual and committed. This project emerged from a period in Diego’s life when he began seeking more stable, less fiery, yet more beautiful forms of love. As he began exploring more committed expressions of love, he also began a new commitment to music: to put out one new song a month for a whole year. Pretty Fire aims to make space for quieter, more contemplative music that still retains the yearning passion of Latin-inspired love songs. The music explores influences like Sufjan Stevens and Bruno Major while including traditional Senegalese rhythms, which Diego has studied for years, as well as salsa and bachata. This multinational blend of sounds proves that there is more to bring us together than to push us apart. With the upcoming self-titled album, Pretty Fire hopes to share their own vision of love and unity at a time when most of the media we consume drives us towards fear and division.

Good News! We have received the OK to resume operations and will be open starting this Monday (6/1). We are taking booking requests now at [email protected] and 415-441-8934. We've put a lot of thought into reopening safely and efficiently while maintaining the essence of recording studio experience. We've installed a comprehensive program of sanitary isolation adapted for the studio. Masks will be required for everyone in the building at all times, except for singing a voc...al in a room alone. We are happy to provide masks. Air in the studio will be HEPA filtered. Only essential contributors will be allowed for sessions; nobody else attending the session. Thorough daily cleaning will clean all equipment including mics, headphones, console, etc as well as all common areas, with special attention to anything hands can touch (door handles, surfaces, etc). As usual, guests for our Studio A can be escorted in and out of our parking area without leaving their vehicles. Our Rancho Rivera studio also provides a quiet garden patio and serene neighborhood. We are extremely thankful for all the support from the community during this pandemic. Many thanks to all the contributors to our fundraiser and all the artists who gave statements and performed on our behalf. See you all in the studio!
