2 Grounded Minutes with Kevin Bieksa NHL Career: 13 Seasons (Vancouver, Anaheim),808 Games, 278 Pts, 1124 PIMs... Question 1) What was your home town like? KB: Small farming (peach, pears, apples) town in southern Ontario. 20,000 people. Hockey community center in the middle of town. 4 Tim Hortons. Kids skating on the frozen ponds and farmlands on the escarpment. Kids all hung out downtown before cell phones. Question 2) What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? KB: Integrity is what you do when no one is watching. Don’t take shortcuts. Question 3) What’s a charity/cause that you’re passionate about? KB: Mental Illness. Specifically eliminating the stigma associated with it. I relaunched Mindcheck.ca (Foundrybc.ca) after my good friend Rick Rypien took his life 7 years ago. I speak at youth summits and will be speaking to universities in the Fall. Thanks to an awesome guy and former teammate, Kevin Bieksa for doing this and for the tremendous work you’re doing for such an important cause. @ Newport Beach, California See more

The carpenter continued, "I get jobs as a carpenter but I approach my work as a craftsman." "What's the difference?" asked Michael. "A carpenter builds things. A craftsman creates a work of art. While most people approach their work with the mindset that they just want to get it done, craftsmen are more concerned with who they are becoming and what they are creating rather than how fast they finish it. After all, it's no use finishing something if it's not a work of art. The world is filled with those who get things done the fastest and the cheapest, but it needs more artists, craftsmen, and craftswomen. -Excerpt from The Carpenter by Jon Gordon
