Hello, old friend! Some tiny touch-ups before this original painting from 2006(!) is going back to its new owner. Good thing I keep the original paint for each individual painting in marked airtight containers! Working on one of my originals that I had created 14 years earlier was oddly emotional. Next to my latest painting it is undeniable that both came from the same hand, but the 2006 version is raw and lacks sophistication. The temptation is strong to want to fix thin...gs but I feel it is best left alone. Think of it as the Gmünd 356/2 of Hunziker paintings. The 911 is faster and smoother but you wouldn’t want to change a Gmünd 356 into a 911. Much like the 356 and 911, each of my paintings represents my best effort at that time. Since 2006, I’ve been able to build a little following and add some zeros to my prices. Was it luck, talent or just hard work? I’m sure they all contributed but it’s hard to say. One thing is for sure: I couldn’t have done it without my wife, Heather Norwood. Her vision, dedication and hard work made our brand what it is today. This had a huge impact on my painting career. What would your life partner say if you left your six-figure job and 401K behind (I used to write and direct TV commercials) to paint out of the living room? In the early years the mortgage was late on more than one occasion. But not once did she object or deny me to pursue my passion. Talent, dedication and passion are great, but without focus and a vision; they are just that. Without Heather, I might still be painting our of our living room!

It never ceases to amaze me how just a little bit of white paint brings a painting alive. Applying the white highlights is one of my favorite steps in the creation of an original painting. It’s a balancing act: Too much white and the tension is lost, but not enough white will result in a flat canvas. Let’s hope I get it just right! #hunziker #fueledbypassion #lasslaufa
