HASA supports the Steelhead in the Classroom program through the Humboldt County Office of Education, and here is an example of the tank setup all ready to go. Just need some Steelhead eggs from the hatchery soon! Thank you to Jim Stemach for the setup, and to Leslie Hart at Fortuna Middle School for the photo.

HASA Friends, With Covid restrictions eliminating our annual fundraiser and forcing more reliance on socially distanced interactions, HASA is seeking a volunteer to help us expand our social media presence to better connect with our members and the general angling community along the north coast. While we have some social media presence on Facebook, the HTC board, and our web page, we’d like to find an assistant that is experienced with social media that could help us expand ...our presence and be more effective at reaching out to our constituents. Desired volunteer would hopefully have an understanding of how Facebook and Instagram algorithms work to increase our ability to reach more of our constituents, link with other like-minded angling groups, and better share information/photos/stories. If you or someone you know with social media experience would be willing to help HASA do better outreach on social media, please email us at [email protected]. Thank you, and tight lines! On November 25th at approximately 1310, six 40' containers were lost overboard from the cargo vessel MSC ROMANE in approximate position 40 49' 2"N and -124 50' 6"W. The containers are presumed to be still floating. At this time the Marine Information Broadcast has been cancelled. Weather and current analysis shows the most likely drift would be to the south (this is only assumed not verified) Mariners are encouraged to report any sightings of these containers to the nearest... Longrange fishing report from Baja...The Captain of the Polaris Supreme made a last minute decision to not head to the blue fin grounds. It was a good call as a storm came in and the bite turned off. All blue fin trips were cancelled. Instead we headed for the Ridge. Unfortunately the storm followed us south with rough seas, high winds and even rain during our 10 days. Skip jacks and yellow fin were hitting all rods. The biggest yellow fin in the 30lbs. Because the fishing was slow we slid on down to Alijos Rocks. The dorado and yellowtail bite was amazing. Wahoo was slow in the rough seas. A few marlin were hooked (I hooked one as well). On our way home we stopped at Rosa Banks where some big dorado were found. Great trip.

As requested during the HSC meeting today, here is info on the new edition of Coast Pilot 7. The full Coast Pilot can be found on our main Coast Pilot page here: https://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/publ/coast-pilot/index.html Humboldt Bay is covered in Chapter 8, which can be downloaded/viewed as a PDF here: https://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov//files/cp7/CPB7_C08_WEB.pdf... The section on Humboldt Bay begins on page 321. I'm really interested in getting comments on the table at the top of page 324, which describes the commercial wharves in the area and the handling facilities and storage they can provide. I'd appreciate you forwarding to the HSC members and requesting review/feedback to ensure the table is accurate. Also, any other comments or suggestions to improve the part that covers Humboldt Bay and your section of the coast of Northern California would be great. Many thanks, Jeff ******************* Jeffrey Ferguson NOAA, Office of Coast Survey California Navigation Manager cell: 301-351-7798 office: 805-893-7107

After taking my visiting friend for a nice walk and lunch in the big trees up at Orick, we were out on the beach by the lagoons where there was a small run on smelt. The cormorants, gulls, brown pelicans, and gray seals were feasting, and I shot this video of one of the fisherman.

Jan Gillespie with a lingcod caught this morning. Measured after being in the fish box for more than an hour, it measured at 39 on the Check-it fish measure on my fish box lid. The last visible line is 38. It overhangs that an inch. 31 pounds on the scale at home. Son Matthew had a 13 pound cabezon, but we didn’t get a length measurement on that one (was obviously legal!).
