A Valentine Themed Welcome Home . Today we had the joy of furnishing Jessica's new home with the help of @ljcsc Valentine's day is around the corner and everyone brought love and warmth to her new space! . Jessica is a single mother who came from a traumatic childhood causing her to struggle with mental health and substance abuse. CPS removed 2 of her children from her custody, but she has worked incredibly hard to regain custody and reunify her children again. Her kids... now have a beautiful and comfortable place to call home . After being released from prison in 2019 Tabatha became homeless with her four children. As part of her parole, she was referred to a number of service provider...s and ultimately connected with the Alpha Project’s Tenant Peer Support Services program. TPSS assisted Tabatha in applying for a section 8 voucher through a special county program. Tabatha was awarded her voucher in January 2020 but still faced many barriers to getting leased up including having no rental history or credit. TPSS was able to find a landlord who wanted to support Tabatha and agreed to rent her a lovely 3-bedroom condo. Tabatha’s condo is in an excellent neighborhood giving her middle and high school aged children access to good schools close to their home. On April 7th Tabatha and her family moved in to their new home. In October, TPSS referred Tabatha to Humble Design and she was chosen to have her house furnished by them! In the just one year since she was released from prison, Tabitha has come so far in turning her life around and achieving stability for her kids. Tabatha and her family have been through so much and having their home furnished by Humble Design San Diego was such a wonderful way to honor this family.

So here's the story behind this picture. Today humble design furnished a home for a family of four who have been homeless for the last year. Two girls, 5 and 7... and a boy 14 years old. When the little girls saw the living room for the first time the older one wrapped the little one in her arms, put their foreheads together, and cried. I never get tired of this job. See more

When Tierra Mack, 28, and her three daughters and son -- ages 11 to 2 -- got home on Thursday on Mercy Road in San Diego, they probably didn't recognize their apartment.... Beds, dressers, decorative items, a couch, coffee table, toys, patio furniture, bedding, a dining set, a set of dishes and, well, everything that makes an apartment a home -- workers moved it all in and assembled it before the Macks got home. Was Mack surprised? "[At] a loss for words right now," Mack said. "Like, I don't even know where to begin. To come from Ohio and being divorced, and having four kids, and being a single mom, it's hard. But this is like, help put a lot of ease to my life, working and having four children and just all over the place. So now they have their own little place and I have my own little sanctuary ..." A case worker chose the Mack family to be the recipients of the goodwill from Humble Design and the team at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Center and Med Spa. "This is a family of five," said Marie Oleson, the CEO of the La Jolla Cosmetic Center. "Because of COVID, they've been living in this apartment on mattresses since April. Now we're here to set up a home for them and a home that will be the foundation for their life." Mack came to the area last year and was unable to find part-time work till April -- a small miracle in itself, considering that the pandemic hit the area in February -- and recently was offered a full-time job as a case manager. (11/11) After spending nine months in a shelter with her mother and brother, in the middle of a pandemic, Dakota and her family were excited to move into their two bedroom house. Dakota’s mom was working, so the Humble Designers got to reveal the house to Dakota. She was so surprised. Having a bed, and a house for her family, a place to celebrate the holidays, and a place to do distance learning will make al the difference for this family this year.

Three Humble Years . Did you know that Humble Design San Diego has been in the works for about three years? Below are some words from our Director Estee about her journey with Humble Design SD . I started this journey three years ago, completely new to the San Diego community. All I knew was that I loved and believed in the incredible Humble mission and was commited to help it succeed. I had never witnesssed anything quite like the magic of Humble. Within a few months we ...hired a staff of 6 and filmed 7 episodes @cwwelcomehome showcasing our clients’ stories in San Diego. Soon after we established our amazing Humble community with over 200 volunteers, an 8-week waitlist of clients and more furniture donations than we could handle. One of my favorite aspects is the teamwork and working alongside our unique loving Humble community. Most importantly, we have changed the lives of over 90 households, impacting 250 people that have suffered from homelessness so far in San Diego.
