Are you struggling through the bonding process with your rabbits? Or are you considering getting a friend for your rabbit, but have never bonded rabbits before? We have several great articles on our website you can read to get an idea of what the bonding process is like and for tips to try, including Georgia House Rabbit Society's very thorough bonding guide! Learn more about bonding rabbits at rabbit.org/tag/bonding. Bonding is hard work, but incredibly rewarding for both yo...u and your rabbits. Rabbits are very social creatures and most rabbits crave the companionship of another rabbit. Human companionship can't fully replicate the close bond that's shared between rabbits. Adopting a friend for your rabbit also saves two additional lives: the one you bring home and the new space you've made available at the shelter for another rabbit to be rescued.

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) Type-2 continues to spread across the United States. Visit rabbit.org/rhdv for the latest information and for a full list of outbreak areas. For anyone living in an area with current spread of RHDV, the most important things you can do to help keep your rabbits safe are keeping your rabbits inside (including no outdoor playtime), taking biosecurity measures at home, and vaccinating when the vaccine is available (vaccine is available in current outbreak states only). Even indoors-only rabbits are at risk, since the virus can be spread to them by people, other animals, and even insects. Download our RHDV handout to learn more about what you can do to keep your rabbit safe at rabbit.org/rhdv.

Thank you so much for the outpouring of donations from our Amazon and Chewy wish lists recently! Here's Blizzard, Marigold, Nova, Sol, and Storm exploring the goodies. Oftentimes there aren't receipts with donations so we aren't sure who to thank. We're so grateful for your support, and the bunnies are too! (SF Bay Area) Look at this adorable photo of Crimson from her foster family! This sweet, nosey girl is always trying to see what you're doing or where you're going, and loves to lounge on the stairs in the center of all the action. Crimson is recovering from an abscess removal from the side of her neck and is on several medications while she heals before she's ready to be adopted. She was also recently spayed! Crimson loves to explore and sniff out the couch or run up and dow...n the stairs. Foraging enrichment activities are super fun for her, since she is obsessed with food! She is not shy at all anymore, thanks to being socialized by her foster family, and she runs up to say hi when you walk into the room. Crimson likes to nudge you gently to get your attention and she loves lounging on soft carpets or blankets. She is always on the alert for the sound of treats with her big gorgeous ears. This friendly girl may even enjoy a bunny friend, too! While Crimson isn't available just yet, you can meet all the bunnies available for adoption here: rabbit.org/rabbit-center/adopt

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, so we'll be sharing important facts about getting your rabbit fixed all month long. Learn more at rabbit.org/faq-spaying-and-neutering. Did you know that unfixed female rabbits have an 80% chance of developing uterine cancer? Or that one pair of unfixed rabbits can produce over 3.5 million more rabbits, significantly contributing to the overpopulation problem? For these reasons and many others, it's important to spay or neuter your rab...bit(s). Spaying and neutering rabbits has become a safe procedure when performed by experienced rabbit veterinarians. A knowledgeable rabbit veterinarian can spay or neuter a rabbit with very little risk to a healthy rabbit. Don't allow a veterinarian with little to no experience with rabbits to spay or neuter your rabbit. Find a rabbit-savvy vet: rabbit.org/vet-listings See more

On December 30, 2020, The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services was notified of a single property that had rabbit mortality and tested positive for Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type 2 (RHDV-2). The source of the virus has not yet been determined and there are no other confirmed or suspected cases in Florida at this time. This is the first case of RHDV in Florida. For anyone living in an area with current spread of RHDV, the most important things you can ...do to help keep your rabbits safe are keeping your rabbits inside (including no outdoor playtime), taking biosecurity measures at home, and vaccinating when the vaccine is available (vaccine is available in current outbreak states only). Download our RHDV handout to learn more at rabbit.org/rhdv. As the outbreak continues to develop, House Rabbit Society will continue to keep you updated at rabbit.org/rhdv with information about the spread of RHDV and how you can protect your rabbit.

(Roseville, California) This is a courtesy post for rabbits looking for a good home through a private individual. These rabbits are not available through House Rabbit Society. What’s better than starting the new year with a new friend? Meet pairs Fig & Plum and Popcorn & Gemini! They’re all looking for a home of their very own. Last spring, Fig (gray with white spot on nose) & Plum (gray with white paws) were dropped off at a veterinary clinic in Roseville, California, after ...a Good Samaritan caught them outside. Plum was pregnant and soon gave birth to four babies, all of whom have been adopted. Popcorn (white) & Gemini (gray) have both been treated for mites and are healthy enough to be adopted. They were left outside by their previous owner to fend for themselves and thankfully were rescued. Learn more about each pair here: hrsrabbitcenter.tumblr.com If you’re interested in one of these pairs, reach out to Holly at [email protected]. The adoption fee is $125 per pair.
