The United States’ Second Pearl Harbor On Dec 7, 1941 (Dec 8, 1941, 2:30PM Manila time) ten hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japanese planes continued their war campaign against the United States with the bombing of Manila, severely destroying the city. The NEW House of the Philippines weekly construction update, Friday, October 16, 2020. A day late in posting. The good and the bad. The bare wood that makes for beautiful colorful photos are now gone because of the normal progression of construction. They are now completely hidden by the drywall that went up this week and drywall finishing will continue next week. Once drywall finishing is done, cabinet installation follows, then the floor tiles. This slow process is reall...y a great exercise in patience but it prolongs our anticipation and our excitement. The Sarno Family came by to check the progress and so did Sal and Shirley Flor and the President of the House of Chamorros Jeff Macaraeg. Mabuhay!

The NEW House of the Philippines weekly construction update, Friday, October 9, 2020. The house was like a beehive this week. A lot of work took place as you can see in these photos. All the windows and the front door frame were completely installed. The insulation on the walls and ceiling were put in place. The outside walls were wrapped with waterproofing construction paper, then metal netting (like chicken wire) was tacked on top of it. Also, President Rom Sarno welcomed our first visitors, Carlos Mozombite, President of the House of Peru and Lola, Mary and Frank, delegates from the House of Chamorro.

Happy FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! October was chosen to be the Filipino American History Month because it was in the month of October on the 18th day in 1587 when the first Filipinos, referred to in history as Luzones Indios, made landfall in an area researchers currently believe to be south of Morro Bay. To memorialize this historic event, the Filipino American Historical Society has placed a commemorative plaque on a large boulder in Coleman Park near the famous landmark the Morro Rock.

The NEW House of the Philippines weekly construction update, Friday, September 25, 2020. You can see Rom testing the stability of the building. It didn’t move so I guess it is okay. Then we had a bunch of people climb on the roof, they danced the hip-hop and it did not cave in. So that’s a thumbs up! No work was done inside the house this past week but roof tile installation started and should be finished next week.

The NEW House of the Philippines weekly construction update, Friday, September 18, 2020. Missed a couple of weekly updates but, HERE’S THE LATEST! Something that you cannot see in these photos are the work on plumbing, mechanical and electrical that was completed in this phase and passed the city inspectors’ scrutiny. On the roof you can see that roof tiles are stacked and will be laid out this coming week. Our four-leaf doors dubbed as the most beautiful doors in the Intern...ational Cottages are being delivered next week. Till next week. MABUHAY!

The House of the Philippines Board of Directors, Fundraising Committee and Design Committee were on site today to check the progress of construction. A great deal was done this week. Plumbing, electrical wirings and roofing are in progress. ... I hope you are all as happy as me to learn how the construction is progressing each week.
