BREAKING - Guadalupe Island will be 're-opened' (change of COVID status) July 1st 2021. First of all we want to THANK all our shark divers from last year and this year for going on this remarkable journey with us, it has been at times difficult and frustrating but here we are. Open for business. New Permits 2021... Across the entire biosphere system Mexico has initiated a new series of permits ours will rise to $75 per day or $225 per diver additional this year. We FULLY support this move as it means the park staff will be funded to protect our sharks your dollars will go directly into shark conservation in a way never before done. Final News We want to thank the Park Staff and CONANP for working as hard as they have to get this final park opened. It was a slog, and they deserve a lot of credit. Ok shark divers we're back, there's a small chance *if* COVID rates go insane things could change but we have 109 days until our first trip back! Onwards! This seal predation took place right in front of our eyes a few years ago in Shark Alley while active tracking an adult male we know as 'Zane'. If you look clos...ely you can see the dark mark from an old Satellite tag on his dorsal. The lower lobe of his caudal fin is also missing and he is quite the 'studied' shark (he is in Bonfil et al.2004, Jewell et al. 2011 and 2014 as well as Towner et al. 2016). Myself and the interns watched from the research boat in disbelief as he rushed right up against Geyser rock and dragged the startled seal into the water to meet its end, he clearly had his hunting strategies well refined. Excited to post the results of a white shark study we participated in at #guadalupeisland with Dr Hoyos in 2014. This study describes the effect of different baits on the attraction, surface behaviour and conditioning of white sharks Carcharodon carcharias during local ecotourism activities at #guadalupeisland.
