The California Department of Public Health issued an updated Travel Advisory on January 6. They ask Californians to avoid non-essential travel more than 120 mil...es from their homes, and they discourage non-essential travel to California from other states. Anyone coming from other states or countries is asked to self-quarantine for 10 days. https://www.cdph.ca.gov//Pag/COVID-19/Travel-Advisory.aspx Joshua Tree National Park is still open, though campgrounds have been closed for over a month in consideration of the ongoing Stay At Home order. Exercise and natural spaces are always important, particularly in times of stress. However, with the increasing strain on hospitals and emergency response services in Southern California, particularly in rural counties and small communities, we ask all visitors to #RecreateResponsibly. For some, this means visiting public lands close to home or exploring national parks virtually. If you plan to come to Joshua Tree, please be conservative in your decision-making. Plan ahead, carry a map, bring warm clothing, have plenty of food and water, and make sure your goals are well within your abilities. There is no cell service in much of the park. To limit spread of covid-19, please maintain at least 6 feet of distance from people outside your household. Wear a face covering indoors, and wear one outdoors when you can’t maintain appropriate distance. Park staff and local communities appreciate your efforts to keep yourselves, each other, and us safe!
