Karin's Kinder School 30.10.2020

Children will learn and advance academically when lessons are kept in context, of interest to the child, allow for choice, and when open-ended leaving space for wonderment. When children continue to ponder what they are learning outside of the classroom, their curiosity and imagination can flow freely, ultimately unleashing wonderful creativity and stimulation of a growth mindset. Thus, one of the more effective ways to structure lessons would be by setting up unit lessons in...volving projects. Project-based learning allows for much more depth of learning and for opportunities to meaningfully connect content across several subjects. However, most importantly, all learners are able to participate and ultimately feel valued, heard, and seen when learning via thoughtfully designed project activities. Welcome back to the new school year: Nate, Alexander, Nicholas, Alexa, Fiona, Darius, Stefan, and Olivia! :) :) :)

From "Story Writing For The Young" How we teach writing at Karin's Kinder School: Young children are still in awe about the world and if nurtured to "see" it, will keep developing their imagination and creativity. To teach writing, it is more important to tap into the mind of a child by keeping content in context; by keeping youngsters in the moment, by tapping into their feeling world that is so vibrant and alive to them--they will want to write about it. Textbooks and workb...ooks stifle a youngster's intellectual development when asking to "fill in the blanks" and answer questions completely out of context. Writing is an art form so important to teach well. The goal of a writing program should be to teach youngsters skills that will allow them to express emotions, ideas, and prompting issues in writing. At Karin's Kinder School students create their own beautiful collection of writing entries, stories, poetry, and illustrations. Boost Post See more

Art from Karin's Kinder School. Cross hatching, dark and light, seeing space.

Why do children need art? The word "art" is often thrown around as being this idea that one gets to be creative, expressive, on the right side of the brain...Yes, while that is true, art does much more than allowing an hour of "free play"--art teaches what academic subjects can never. Real art involves looking between the lines, at the light and dark shades behind and around an object, which then, when carefully observed, will draw one into the space most people miss, don't p...ay attention to. The space around objects then will create the shape, not the other way around. We teach our children to look at objects, we make them learn their names, to classify and to categorize things. We label, based on standards, ideas, beliefs, stereotypes, dogma, and social constructs. But to a real artist, there is no such thing; all is beautiful...An old face with deep wrinkles tells a story, not that a person is old; light bouncing off of a child's eye when feeling loved is the emotion, not the smile; the space between objects we see in the skye draw a true seeker deep into possibilities, not the objects themselves. All children need art, to become observers of all of the beauty there is around us, of the invisible, then they will not only learn to think, but realize their own true voice...awesome!
