At home-start.org/volunteers we have a variety of volunteer positions available to serve Home Start’s Mission of strengthening families to protect children, including: Scheduling Support- VITA Program: Manages phone communications and client scheduling for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Connects clients with our Volunteer Tax Preparers to schedule filing appointments. Ensures clients submit all appropriate data and conduct pre-screening. ... Located at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation- customizable for your schedule- seven days a week! Fiscal Assistant: Copies, scans, and files Accounts Payable (AP) invoices and billing information Maintains accurate and up-to-date fiscal department files, records, and documentation. Efficiently enters data to complete Monthly Income Plan (MIP) Located in Central San Diego at our Texas Street office- weekly commitment 10-12 hours Flexible schedule Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM Thrift Boutique Donation Assistant: Meets with merchandise donors by appointment and processes donated items Quality reviews and sorts items for later sale Ensures all items are clean and functional prior to being placed on the sale floor. We are kicking off a month of #GivingThanks and we are especially grateful for all of you. This year’s Hallo-Wine event raised more than $38,000 to help protect women and children from domestic violence and provide essential services and supplies for families struggling with the ongoing pandemic. We’re sharing one more example of how Home Start is helping San Diegans through the pandemic. A mother and her husband lost their jobs and within a few weeks, they both contracted COVID-19. Tragically, the illness claimed his life. Our rental assistance program was able to provide support and when the woman heard that her check was ready, she was overwhelmed that she and her children would not be in the streets. Our case managers continue to work with the family to provide additional resources to help them get back to self-sufficiency. Home Start and First 5 San Diego hosted a drive-thru Halloween event where children got to dress up and have fun in a safe, socially-distanced environment. Both families and staff had a great time!
