The October Spooktacular Commander's Vlog headlines this newsletter. There's also a call for volunteers to help with Buddy Checks and putting our Food Drive on your radar. HOLLYWOOD HISTORY: Here are three of Hollywood's biggest stars in one publicity shot at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, at 10202 West Washington Boulevard in Culver City, California. Lassie (a male collie named "Pal") is seen jumping over child actor Roderick "Roddy" McDowall (1928-1998) and twenty-two-year-old Joseph Yule, Jr. (best known as Hollywood Post 43's most famous comrade, Mickey Rooney!). At the time that this photo was taken, Pal and Roddy were working on the iconic... film "Lassie Come Home," and Rooney was filming "The Human Comedy" (1943). Pal was owned by Rudd Weatherwax, and the "Lassie" training style is still used by his son, Robert "Bob" Weatherwax: https://www.facebook.com/Robert-Weatherwax-175599859130278/ Mickey Rooney served in the Army during WWII; his father, Joseph "Joe" Yule Sr., served in WWI. Fourteen-year-old McDowall, like many studio stars of the day, supported the war effort by working at the Hollywood Canteen and touring the nation on war bond drives.
