As part of HCHC’s Bright Beginnings for Baby program, our Resident Services department safely delivered 105 books -with options in English and Spanish- to 35 infants. This program was launched thanks to the generosity of Mark and Janet Brown to promote infant literacy. After successfully leasing-up two new developments, Stanford Avenue Apartments near Compton and Florence Mills Apartments in South Los Angeles, we anticipate to have one more distribution in 2021.... We are very grateful to our supporters who remain committed to boosting our young residents’ academic potential - at all ages.

HCHC’s 12th Annual Fall Family Feast was different this year but still wonderful! We want to express our gratitude to @playhousehw for donating all of the turkeys and to @ralphsgrocery for providing $20 gift cards to 400 families so they could buy additional groceries for their holiday meal. Once again our friends at #barkermanagement were instrumental in helping us with the event, this time making sure each family received a turkey in a way that was safe and healthy.

To celebrate the vibrant history of South Central Aveue through jazz singer Florence Mills' incredible story, HCHC is collaborating with muralist Myisha Arellanus who is pictured (1st picture, on the left) with HCHC’s Executive Director Sarah Letts. Myisha is excited about the attention her murals might bring to HCHC’s mission to create service-enriched affordable housing throughout Los Angeles. HCHC was honored to host a round-table discussion led by Congressman Adam Schiff who introduced legislation called the Affordable and Homeless Housing Incentives Act. The bill introduced by Congressman Schiff is important for affordable housing developers in strong real estate markets. It is challenging for non-profits to compete with the for-profit sector who can pay cash and/or access capital more quickly, said Sarah Letts, Executive Director of the Hollywood Community... Housing Corporation. This bill would give property owners an economic incentive to sell to eligible housing operators like Hollywood Community Housing, thus increasing the supply of critically needed affordable housing and permanent supportive housing for the homeless. At a ceremony attended by Assemblymember Laura Friedman and Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, HCHC’s Coronel Apartments in East Hollywood received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification at the Platinum level - the highest distinction awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council. The building, designed by KFA Architecture, includes several environmentally sustainable features including solar thermal water heating, drought-tolerant landscaping, and energ...y efficient lighting and appliances. HCHC is honored to receive this distinctive recognition and will continue to do its part to fulfill its mission by creating affordable housing projects that are environmentally sustainable and that respect and enhance the character of the surrounding neighborhoods. #LEED #usgbc #greenbuilding #sustainabledesign #coronelapartments #sustainability #saveenergy #socialequity #gogreen #hollywood #affordablehousing #community #losangeles #LEEDTopTen #greenarchitecture #sustainablearchitecture #forthegreatergood
