We are a day late. Do you recognize this item from Sacramento History Museum and Tours?

Historical Society of Winters 18.10.2020

The Yolo County Archives produced this "Anniversaries and Celebrations" video for the 2020 Sacramento Archives Crawl. Of special Winters interest is the final section (beginning at the 4:40 mark) where one can view the articles of incorporation and a panoramic photograph of Winters’ Japanese American School and Community Center. The Kokugo Gakuen was completed in 1930, 90 years ago. Access that section directly by using the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDW1...lNtvcEU&t=280. #YoloCountyArchives #YoloCountyHistory #WintersHistory #LostJapaneseCommunity

Winters Elder Day Council honored Ben Shimomura in 2018. The Winters Express reported: 'Ben Shimomura’s parents emigrated from Japan. He was born December 4, 1920, in Sacramento. The family moved to Winters where he grew up on the property known as the horseshoe. He attended Apricot School and Winters High School, but was unable to graduate when they were interned during WWII. This was the most difficult thing in my life, he explains with emotion. He married in 1948 and h...e and his wife, Lois, raised a family of four children. The family grew to seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Shimomura is very proud of his family. I really enjoy spending time with them. Shimomura was able to buy the ranch he worked on where they grew apricots and almonds. This was my first big purchase and the most influential and successful thing in my life, he says. Asked what is the hardest thing about getting old, he smilingly responded, Just getting around!' #WintersHistory #WintersElderDay

This week's #Yesteryear photo (picked by Charley Wallace) from the Winters Express. The caption reads: "This picture from the late 1930s shows Main Street looking east. Bank of America was on one corner with the Post Office on the other. The D.O. Judy Palm Tree is just starting to grow above the horizon." #WintersExpress #DowntownWinters #WintersMuseum #HistoricalSocietyofWinters #WintersHistory
