After working as a custodian in a big box store for more than a decade, Peter’s career path took a different direction. Today, Peter is employed at a skilled nursing facility at Baywood Court Retirement Community a senior retirement community in Castro Valley. Five days a week, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Peter is responsible for meticulously cleaning patient rooms, hallways, and common activity areas. From scrubbing patient rooms to sanitizing handrails, he’s a much-appreciated, hardworking member of the housekeeping team. In his year and a half at Baywood, he hasn’t missed a day of work and is never late. Reliable, thorough, friendly, and polite, Peter is well-beloved by the residents he interacts with every day. Just last month, a resident’s family suggested he receive a commendation for his good work and he did. Congratulations, Peter!

The best businesses are ones that build the positive impact they want to have on the world into their machine. Wondering how can your business improve outcomes AND make a positive impact? Look to #hire employees with a disability. We hired people with #disabilities and what we found was the turnover and absentee rate with these individuals was much lower, and the employee engagement rate was much higher. On paper, the hires we’d made with disabilities were actually outperforming other people." http://bit.ly/37zrYu2

While honing their skills and pursuing employment, East Bay Innovations jobseekers volunteered at the San Leandro Community Food Pantry during the holiday season. Moving and organizing a large produce delivery, volunteers helped make it possible for 200 people to pick up much-needed groceries. Having an opportunity to give back to the community was appreciated by these busy volunteers.
